Re: 1190: "Time"

A newpix is countable. From 8:00pm to 9:00pm is 2 newpix, for example. Part of the confusion comes froms the dual usage of newpix: it is used both as a unit of time equal to 30 minutes, and a unit of a quantized amount of new updates to The Sandcastle. Minutes are used by Outsiders, and are meaning...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Technically speaking, a newpic isn't exactly equal to a period of 30 minutes; it is a measurement of how many new frames will be or have been posted to the One True Comic. Anything more precise than that is meaningless, because there are only two states of being -- looking at a new frame, or waiting...

Re: 1190: "Time"

It's a shame that the wrong image slipped thru to spoil the upcoming frames. It totally killed all the excitement that would be filling this forum right now with talk of flags and such.

Re: 1190: "Time"

I'm so bummed that I missed the unintentional preview of the future frame. I blame my dog, who insisted that I go to obedience training with him. (With it? With y'all?) I keep the original comic page open in a window in the corner of my screen at all times for just such an incident, and then I'm abs...

Re: 1190: "Time"

There is a change in the ground to the left of the sandcastle where it appears (from our perspective) to be getting higher, even in the section that we saw in the previous frame. There is no apparent force that should be causing that -- unless someone or something is just off-screen -- so that could...

Re: 1190: "Time"

The frame definitely just shifted slightly to the left! (So the castle appeared to shift slightly to the right.)

I want this on a t-shirt underneath the image of the sandcastle.

Re: 1190: "Time"

For those of us watching this unfold "live," the next frame (Frame #126 according to http://xkcd.aubronwood.com ) will possibly be one of the most important we've seen so far. Will the scene change, or not? And what sort of precedent does that set for the "rules" of this specific...

I can't believe I forgot that one. It should be #1.

Re: 1190: "Time"

As someone who has followed this comic from the beginning and read every single post in this thread (really), the funniest thing to me is the people who show up late, don't read anything that came before (understandable at this point), and somehow think they are the first person to make observations...

Re: 1190: "Time"

We can rebuild it. We have the technology. We can make it better than it was. Better . . . stronger . . . well, maybe not faster. this made me laugh my ass off Now that it comes to my attention again, I realize there's another level to that which never even crossed my mind when I posted it. I was j...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Oh, and on a somewhat more serious note, I truly hope there's someone watching every moment of the actual xkcd page. If he changes the timing from 30 minutes to say 5 or 10 minutes, these auto-updating scripts based on the half hour are gonna break :/ oh well. You're worried that nobody is watching...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Once again, I'd like to state that it'll be impossible for future viewers of this comic to have the same kind of shared experience that we are having as we watch it unfold, one frame every 30 seconds, with no idea of when or if it will end, or to what purpose. It reminds me of the three-year wait fo...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Like many of you, I've been thinking a lot about possible outcomes, deeper meanings, and yes, even sad realities. That doesn't make us creepy; that makes us human. Right now we are in a unique position, where we are watching this comic unfold at its own speed, wi...
