Re: 1190: "Time"

But the wink makes me think you are just fukkin' with me. Yes? Nope, it was just a brain fart. It didn't click to me that you had recurring decimals there. That makes both of my assertions in my post irrelevant :) However, I still consider .50000... to not be equal to .49999... :) ETA: Just read th...

Ah, "..." implied 9's going on forever, not that the number had ended. My apologies, I was late to the discussion and didn't eat my Ketchup first :( I remember somewhere further back in this discussion that someone said infinity (Which is what you are dealing with by having the 9 recurrin...

Re: 1190: "Time"

While .5000.... is not equal to .499999..... and therefore has an infinite number of reals between them... Are you sure about that? :? I'm pretty sure it is. Can you describe one of those infinite number of reals that are between them? Yes, they are equal. Proof: let x = .499999... Then 10x = 4.999...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Hypothetically, it would be possible for an irrational number like pi or e to go on forever and yet NEVER have the digit "7" follow the digit "3". Or am I mistaken? Has it been conclusively shown that any and every pattern must exist in pi? I think that's how this started wasn't...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Yes, but some of those different things will be represented identically. So, are they different? Really? Represented differently, but perceived as the same thing. You can bump up the resolution and colour depth too if you like, even with a high resoltion image, it's still finite. I really like that...

Re: 1190: "Time"

In the UK, instead of "cell phone" people say "mobile". Short for "mobile phone", obvy, but now, it could represent "mobile everything else that it does, too". I like the German one - 'Handy'. I would still use it now, but nobody would know what I mean. I can...

Re: 1190: "Time"

It seems like that would be a poor location for a clothesline; the clothes would be in the shadow of the houses except at high noon. If the Beanies know about the rising sea, that means they either make regular trips down to the sea, or they can sea the see with their sea-o-scope. If it's the former, then they would have spent time near the sea, exploring, and the chances are that they would be known about in Megan & Cueballs...
