Re: 1190: "Things that are on my side for 600, Alex!"

There is almost nothing more fun than slowly destroying a sandcastle! I will wait for it forever, as long as they keep up the mayhem.

Re: 1190: "Time"

The flags have not moved at all since they were erected. Either they were Photoshopped into the scene, or they are rigid, or this is taking place in an airless environment. In it's the third case, then the two instances of dialogue may have been telepathic. It's not clear that stick figures possess...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Anyhow, dreadful scenarios aside, I think that satisfies my quota, and I can post an actual link I wanted to yesterday. Was listening to NPR while reading this thread, when this came on: Adam Frank, "How to See the World in a Grain of Sand" http://www.npr.org/blogs/13.7/2013/03/27/17464771...

Re: 1190: "Time"

OK, the prior on the variance of the height of the horizontal surface just got broader. I back away from my pavement theory in light of ~1 pixel ripples that have appeared, most likely due to out-of-frame frolicking in liquid. It could be a very large ball pit basin, filled with ~1 cm diameter ball...

Re: 1190: "Time"

The level horizontal surface they are stepping onto has been remarkably level for lo these many newpices, too level for even a lake. Custard, maybe...but they'd have to hit that oobleck running. I bet it's simply pavement, and there's a diving board and pool off to the right. Aand...they just disapp...

Re: 1190: "Time"

I can't find all the speculations in this thread about the relative rate of Time-time to Earth-time, but a reasonable stretch factor seems to be 10. So maybe we're viewing this scene at a redshift of 9, which...umm...is a light-travel time of ~13.1bya, according to a popular online cosmology calcula...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Erstwhile lurker, first-time poster, devoted fan. I'm blown away by the interplay between Randall's art and this thread (and have been hovering at my screen every half hour for as long as anyone). I hope someday someone will create a version of 1190 annotated with key posts. I read the rules, know I...
