Re: Miscellaneous Science Questions

The relativity bit is that being in a box in place at the bottom of a gravity well feels just like being in a box rapidly accelerating towards the Earth's surface.

Re: 2145: "Heists And Escapes"

Are the innermost cylinders of hell shorter than the outer ones?. Here 's a picture. The story is ambiguous about their relative heights. Each circle is vertically offset from the others, making each circle effectively a (2D) ring shape, a circle with a smaller circle (the next circle) cut out. But...

Re: Is it possible to escape from a black hole using another black hole?

There's a relationship between potential energy and rest mass. As two black holes to from a great distance, to closely orbiting, to merging; potential energy is converted to kinetic energy and kinetic energy is converted to gravitational waves, and the combined black hole has less mass than the sum ...

Re: Is it possible to escape from a black hole using another black hole?

If black holes come within their combined Schwarzschild radii of each other are they always destined to merge regardless of their spin and sizes? No, but if their event horizons touch they are destined to merge. If they're spinning, their event horizons might be smaller than their Schwarzschild rad...

Finished AC4, was a little disappointed that it wasn't the I thought it would be, although I don't regret my purchase. Like a lot of triple A games, it had too many redundant side quests. Re: Is it possible to escape from a black hole using another black hole?

What the OP's question suggested to me is two co-orbiting black holes with equal mass, some time before they coalesce, but after the event horizons overlap. If you could manage to aim you ship in along such a path that you remained equidistant from the black holes, could you get through the overlap...

It's vague because in order for it to make sense, we're assuming something is implied. If we see "<number> <uncountable thing>" and want to make any sense of it, we make it "<number> [implied unit] of <uncountable thing>". The implied term is necessarily completely vague, as it's...

Mea culpa, I didn't actually watch the video with sound and I said a stupid thing.

That said, police firearms being stolen isn't that much of an issue. That's not a very good lock, but it doesn't really need to be. Robbing a cop car is still a comically inefficient way of acquiring a firearm.
