Re: 1509: "Scenery Cheat Sheet"

Just some Iowa geography here....

River City, Iowa (Music Man) was based from Mason City, IA

Riverside, Iowa (Star Trek) is a real town just south of Iowa City, IA

Each of those cities sits in the other's space on the map.

Re: Fire risk from a 23W fluorescent bulb in 60W lamp?

Well, you are on the right track. You are making alot of assumptions about the internal wiring of the lamp. Its not all 14 AWG in there.. more like 22 or less (thin braided copper) in most cases. So those current spikes can infact melt the internal wiring because not all ballasts are instant on. We ...

Re: What-If 0053: "Drain the Oceans"

If Earth is losing all the mass of the water, which is quite heavy, what impact will this have on Earth's relative spin, orbital velocity, impact of the less massive earth with the pull on the moon, etc... Somehow I think that the larger exposed land mass and climate changes are the least of humanit...

Re: What-If 0039: "Hockey Puck"

Goalie.... making shots. Yeah... no. The best professional goalies can lob softballs down ice at a pedestrian 30mph or so. Those big sticks plus all that armor make for a very awkward shooting (off hand even). But for argument's sake: Simple 3rd law..... 5oz hockey puck... 225lbs of goalie. Realize ...

Re: What-If 0039: "Hockey Puck"

Interesting analysis, but shame it is missing some crucial bits of information. Having taken several 80mph+ blasts while in net, I can certainly say the force is not trivial but what is more important is the goalie's stance and movement. Sure, a braced goalie is going to feel it, and its going to de...
