Re: 1992: "SafetySat"

I downloaded the image link in the HTML and it has lots of detail, unlike what's seen on the main page. Maybe the message is "this comic simultaneously violates every rule of web design"? See https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/safetysat_2x.png Thank you! You have resolved my confusion, and I've...

Re: 1989: "IMHO"

Here's an interesting article with sources; while "humble" is first, it seems that "honest" was listed starting in the early 90s, but only secondary to "humble," and most sources don't list "honest" at all: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2018/0...

Re: 1916: "Temperature Preferences"

You are correct that humidity makes heat feel hotter (and wind makes cold feel colder), but my point is that it's possible to like heat when it's dry (or wind when it's warm), but absolutely hate humid heat (or cold wind). Re: 1914: "Twitter Verification"

This article gives a decent summary: https://www.theverge.com/2017/11/10/16631774/twitter-verification-kessler-milo-abuse Basically, verification started out as actual identity verification... but then verified users got special features before anyone else, leading folks to believe it was less about...

Re: What-If 0138: Jupiter Submarine

One does not simply combine two Greek words to form an English one. Either χαος has to become chaos or σκαφη has to become vās. Chaoscaphe does have a ring to it. That said, if I were on a sinking boat, I'd totally say "This is a Chaoscaphe!" I came here to make sure I didn't miss footnot...

Re: 121: "Frozen Rivers"

Is this first What If? that he's consulted so heavily with an outside expert on (or at least quoted them so heavily in the article)? I don't recall others where outside experts were quoted so extensively. I wouldn't mind seeing more of it. Also, I don't think he mentions the depth of the freeze. I c...

All the comics I checked linked from the archive are blacked out... except for "Porn Folder" (http://xkcd.com/981/). :?:
