Re: The best realised universe

I think I'll suggest a double vote: Myst and Dune. Myst has a head start, being supposedly (partially) set on Earth, but the characters are very believable and, with the exception of the Prison Book/Age thing they had going on with the fourth game (?), the rules of the universe stay consistent. And ...

There is no such thing as pants.

Pants are an illusion.

...And so is death

I'm seriously hoping this is a Half-Life reference, but it seems more meta than that.

Re: Alternative Energy Revolution

You know, I didn't get the Strider/Gordon Freeman idea right away but, looking back at the comic, it's pretty hard to see anything else (besides Don Quixote, obivously). Somewhat-coincidentally, someone brought up "Zero-Point Energy" a while ago... (Gravity Gun = Zero Point Energy Field Ma...

Oh, yes. Definitely Pharaoh. On a side note, however, I didn't like their "expension pack"-esque sequels (prequels?) like the Greek or Chinese one.

I nominate Psycho Mantis. I mean... He'll read your soul! (Or memory card, but let's not split hairs...)

Re: The Flood versus EVERYTHING

What if a headcrab got on the body of a Flood zombie? They both manipulate the brain stem and CNS... would they just send conflicting orders, rendering the host useless? Or would one of them eventually wise use and take on the other?

Re: Re:

I played through HL2 on easy (because... I'm a pussy... and also am not really a gamer at all so suck at FPS). There were a couple times when I jumped if I was poking around in some dark place and a zombie/headcrab popped up. But actually the iconic moment regarding HL2 was not in-game, but while I...

Re: Games that aged well (PC)

Half-Life (And, I should say, all the expansion packs except Decay)
Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight
Thief 1 and 2

Yeah, a lot of these are game's I've found in retrospect, seeing as I wasn't alive (or was just barely) when they were released.

Re: Taking it seriously: The zombie problem

Hmm... I've been trying to write a "Zombie Survival Guide" as a sort of fanfic of Mel Brooks'. It's posted here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4790546/1/The_Zombie_Survival_Guide , but for your convenience I'll reproduce the relevant, kit-related guide: ZOMBIE SURVIVAL KIT- have at least one...

Democritus' Fragments?

I have to do a presentation on Democritus for science, and I was wondering- are the fragments of his writing that remain available anywhere online? In Greek?

Help, please!

Re: Annoying words, and Words You Hate

I'm going to propose the following as my own favourite words: Epitome (I know, some of you hate it. It just sounds rather... dainty (?) to me, and I like that.) Superfluous (Already mentioned, but I thought it bore repeating) Quixotic (But I HATE the pronunciation "Kwi-KSOT-ik". I much pre...
