Not having to sharpen a mechanical pencil is huge, as far a notes and other personal writing goes, that's what i use. If i'm doing anything semi official it's going to be typed.

Re: Ubuntu- No Networking option

Laptop wireless. I've tried using the network icon in the top-right corner as well as the Network Manager, but neither displays my home network or any nearby networks. Drivers are one of linux's week points. Try going to Administration>Hardware Drivers and see if it lets you install a network drive...

Re: windows protection? (im a linuxer)

As far as comercial antivirus software goes, Nod32and Kaspersky are the best choices. Nod32 is very light on resources, but kaspersky has a bit better virus detection. Both would work for your purpose.

Re: TuxGuitar crashed with installation of Ubuntu 9.04

Exactly what it says on the tin in the title. I finally gave in to the tempting "New distribution 'Ubuntu 9.04' is available now" and it even warned me that some packets would be deleted. "Whatever" I thought, installed, and went to try TuxGuitar - which didn't make a sound. I t...

Re: Making a video out of pictures

Hello, all! I have a couple hundred thousand .png files that are named test0001, test0002, test0003 and so on. Is there an easy way in windows to take all of these, and automatically make them into a movie of say, 30 FPS? Cheers, David. I've always used virtualdub for this, just plug in the first p...

Re: Connecting a new computer to the internet

I'm rather frustrated at this point. Yesterday, we got a new computer that's meant to be mainly for homework, and I've been attempting to hook it up to the internet to further that aim. It's an XP computer, and is an IBM ThinkCentre. I also have an IBM ThinkPad Z60t with XP Pro that's been for my p...

Re: Could anyone help an idiot figure out linux?

How do you wipe the hard drive and do you have to order the CD or can you download it on to a CD and then just boot the computer to it? Also I have about a billion cds from when they used to be important for storing files so a lack of CD's won't be a problem. Another option would be to migrate ubun...

Re: OS migration

From my experience with ubuntu you don't have to use the command line at all, it makes some things easier, but there aren't a lot of basic things that need the it.
