Re: Best Films of 2009

Best Gilliam movie: The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus Pretty much sums up that film. District 9 Inglourious Basterds Moon Watchmen The Informant! Star Trek (though I really want a Star trek film where there isn't some ridiculous enemy to defeat, but a proper ethical problem. Not that this will ever ...

Re: Discworld Advice, Please!

I find that most Discworld novels are hard to break into... you need patience and a really strong cup of coffee before you're totally hooked. Going Postal , however, introduces plenty of new characters, so you don't need to have read previous books, and is really easy to read, as well as being utter...

There are a number of Norwich XKCDers waiting in the woodwork if a meetup was organised!

Re: The worst film you've seen

Personally I have never been so horrified when watching a film than when I saw The Swarm. I mean really, a disaster movie about killer bees that attempts to take itself seriously? I think this is partly because Michael Caine stars, yet does nothing except highlight what an epic failure this movie wa...

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts (now with 20% more fungus!)

I find the image of battered pollock and chips extremely disturbing. I cant eat any food while thinking about it and the throught is prone to making me physically sick.
On the other hand, I find pollock reminds me of one sitting at a bar suspended in space.
This is part of my day.

Re: Recommend one artist

eh. Johnny Flynn and the Sussix Wit are decent, but BE WARNED: they are a british-folk-blues-alt group, so if genre mixing drives you crazy, steer clear. I'm going to recommend mr. scruff, look him up on youtube (I would give you a link but youtube no longer works for me) but bear in mind that most...

The comments made me laugh. All 1,596 of them.
What happens when the ducks need to eat? Food dispensers and water bottle on the behind of the duck in front?

not sad, but very very depressing, the recurrent laugh can make a clear azure sky seem like the mouth of hell.

Re: Looking to start in on the Beatles

I think you have to listen to Sgt. Pepper of Revolver first just to get into your head exactly what a Beatles album sounds like when it flows really well. However, for pure enjoyment and diversity I really have to recommend The White Album, theres so many good tracks and they're so diverse, you can ...

Re: Recommend one artist

Well for all time favourite it would have to be Captain Beefheart, in my opinion second only to the Beatles in influentiality, but the music is not to everybodys taste. In fact the Amazon page for Trout Mask Replica has 222 5stars and 119 1stars with about 50 inbetween. A real favourite of John Peel...
