Re: Post YOUR music here (Merged : The Rainbow Correction)

The Man Forgotten , my third album (and best work to date). Ever since I graduated high school, I've been trying to make music. At first, I was poking just around on a keyboard and trying to learn to play the guitar. I got a little better, and started writing instrumental songs. Just piano and bass...

Re: Post YOUR music here (Merged : The Rainbow Correction)

This weekend, I spent a couple of days laying down a brand new song. It's heavy, fast, and a lot better than I expected when I first sat down to record it. It's called "Ascertain This." I thought I'd share it with you guys.

Re: Post YOUR music here (Merged : The Rainbow Correction)

So, reddit is having a little music competition. The theme is the conflict in Egypt. I don't normally do theme compositions, because I have a difficult time getting in the mood to write and record something when prompted. But this time, I thought I'd give it a shot. The song I wrote is called Crysta...

Re: Post YOUR music here (Merged : The Rainbow Correction)

Hey guys. A while back I posted a new album I'd done, but I realized that I never shared my first one with you. Two years ago, I recorded a gritty, heavy album of rock songs . I started singing for the first time ever. Even though these songs are older, I still really love the sound of them as a who...

Jeniluna: That blows my mind. If there's any "group" I rarely (if ever) encounter people from, it's FAKE? fans. I don't even know that I've ever found anyone else online (outside of pages specifically for Ken's music) who even knows about FAKE?. That's more than small-world - it's microsco...

Re: Post YOUR music here (Merged : The Rainbow Correction)

Jam: Yeah, I get that quite a bit on this album. :) On my first one , people were comparing my voice to Marilyn Manson quite a bit. Dasboard: I know what you mean. I've been into a band's sound before, and when I actually found out who they were as people, it killed it for me. Never a good feeling. ...

Re: Post YOUR music here (Merged : The Rainbow Correction)

I think "odd" voices work because music is so personal. Hearing someone use their voice - probably the purest instrument we have access to - to create moving sounds can be an intense experience. I find that the more I know about an artist, the more I appreciate their music, because it give...

Re: Post YOUR music here (Merged : The Rainbow Correction)

Well, I would definitely agree that I have a nontraditional voice. Billy Corgan was actually an inspiration in getting me to sing more. I always thought his voice was one of the oddest in popular music - but he was still hugely successful.

Re: music production?

I'm kind of late to this discussion, but I thought I'd chime in. I use a combination of FL Studio 8, Sound Forge, iZotope RX/Ozone, and Melodyne for all of my production. The bulk of my work is in FL, with SF mostly used for raw recording of samples and tracks (which I then import). I get pretty dec...

Re: Post YOUR music here (Merged : The Rainbow Correction)

It always makes me smile when someone likes my singing, because I know my voice isn't...traditional? It's odd. And I've only been singing for a couple of years now, so it's still sometimes a shock to listen to. I also made a little EP to go along with the album, with some tracks that didn't make it ...

Re: Post YOUR music here (Merged : The Rainbow Correction)

I just finished my second album today. It's made up of 11 tracks that combine hard rock, industrial beats, and electronic sounds. It's called "The Shivers," and I put it up on BandCamp to be listened to (in high quality, no less). ianmarquis.bandcamp.com I spent a year and a half (on and o...

The ketchup field is definitely a bit tragic - especially since it drowned two characters.

Another thing on my page is a video for another song that isn't on the player - Give It Up. It's completely different from the rest of the material up there. More stripped down. I can't figure out how to embed, so here's the link - sorry for the extra click.

Re: Owl City. Hate it, Love it, whatever.

Kudos to him as an artist, for getting his music out there (and succeeding). All I've heard is Fireflies, and it literally makes me feel sick. I haven't listened to any of his other stuff because of that, but whatever he's doing, people like it. That can't be a bad thing.

Re: I make some dark, industrial, edgy rock (my first album)

Yeah, the volume of the singing varies depending on the track - the ones that use the lower, groan-y type vocals have a quieter track (Break, Candy, Such a Mess), while the ones that have sharper vocals pump it up a bit more (Give it Up, (Shhh) Don't Tell). Dream: Hey, my bad - I forgot I even had a...

Oh come on - that's a little snark from my blog. It's for fun. It's hyperbole, and intended to get a rise out of people. I have never, nor will I ever, speak like that in conversation with a musician about their work.

I make some dark, industrial, edgy rock (my first album)

So, I'm a guitarist / singer / producer (self-taught, amateur, the usual). I released my first album, "The Solomon Project," last year. It's entirely self-made, out of my apartment - but I promise it sounds good. I put some serious time into it. It's not a demo. The sound is dense, with la...
