There was this creepy book I loved as a kid, the premise was basically this kid with fairy parents being left with humans because his/her parents died, and this cat who was his/her guardian, and in the house there are these gold wind up toys, and at the end when the kid has settled into life in thi...

Maybe it's just to let you know that the swipe actually went through, and "thank you" sounds nicer and is less annoying than "beeeep"? I don't normally expect my appliances to talk to me either though.

It's kinda funny...I just noticed the button myself a couple days ago. Was a matter of "oh hey, there's this little picture here, I wonder if it does anything...*click*...woah, cool!" :) Even though I know it's there now, I still forget to actually click on it about 99% of the time. Click ...

Re: Gender of Authors

My bookshelf has probably about 90-95% sci-fi and fantasy books on it. Just took a look through my list and got a rough estimate, about 185 of my 440ish books are written by women (what? I like books, ok? :P) If you go by number of authors rather than books, it's about 30 women compared to 55 men. S...

Has anybody here tried bacon popcorn? I saw it on the shelf at Hy-vee the other day and was wondering if I should give it a try. The obvious answer is "yes" but still... A little late, but yes, I have. While it sounds like a great idea, it really isn't. At all. Maybe try making popcorn on...

My favorite, it's old but good, and I'm feeling nostalgic: Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg...Batmobile lost a wheel, and Joker got away . I'd imagine that, if you're otherwise qualified, companies would probably be willing to work with you as far as getting your license, maybe while you're doing other training, so that once you're fully trained you'd have the license as well? I dislike writing in fiction books. Like I've seen mentioned a few times before, it just detracts from the story for me. I'd prefer not to get distracted by my previous notes. Or other people's...one of the best examples I have of this is a book that I bought used, and then as I was reading it disco...

Re: Rant Thread (to balance Awesome Thread)

Regarding the stripped books, that's pretty much the standard policy as far as I'm aware for mass market paperbacks. What we usually do is ask if we can get separate checks, if we can then great. If the waiter/waitress takes the check and money f...
