Re: Fixed fines create class justice?

I also refuted the notion that "it is in theory a deterrent," that is not why we have a justice system You keep sayingt this, yet you have done no such thing. In fact, the first time you posted in this thread, you started off saying you have already refuted this idea, but you had never ev...

Actually diamonds, I didn't see anywhere were you even commented in this thread muchless 'This assumes that fines serve as a deterrent, which I established isn't actually the case. '. In any case, yes, the stated purpose of fines is to deterr people from breaking the law. This is actually the classi...

Re: Unpopular Musical Opinions

-80's Hair Bands all suck. That goes for Guns & Roses, Pantera, Def Leopard, and all the rest. I think they were just going for 'Loud' and everything else was inconsequential. Yes, even the old stuff sucked. That's probably the only one I have that most people would really get ornery about. I al...

Re: Best and Worst Discworld

I love pretty much all of his books, but I found Monstrous Regiment to be by far the worst book he's written. It's like he had a half-formed idea for a story he just couldn't get out of his head, so he put it on paper, it fell flat, and he didn't have a decent end for it so he just went the lame and...

I present to you: The New Orleans BINGO! Show. http://www.neworleansbingoshow.com/Site/MUSIC.html You can listen to both of their CD's for free, via streaming audio. For songs, I recommend 'In A Lounge With Broken Wings', 'Mid-City Baby', 'Johnny Christ' and 'Lucky Number 5'. It's mostly undefinable...

It seems I'm the only one who was bored by this movie. It was just a negative of 'A wonderful life'. I am kinda confused by people who were confused by it though, for all it's flaws, I thought it was very transparent about what had happened.

Re: D&D: 1e, 2e, 3.0/3.5, 4e: which do you prefer?

4e's combat system is a tactical positional game. And 2e's...wasn't? Back in the day when I was playing 2E in High School/College, we rarely ever used figurines. Eventually we got some and would break them out for 'big' combats, but for small encounters we usually never used them. While this was ac...

If dwarves ever enter any water they immediately drop their babies and haul themselves to safety, even if it's 1/7 water.

Re: Bloodline Dwarf Fortress #2: PD-tVoF -Bhelliom turn

I've been playing DF a few weeks now, maybe a month. I've recently started playing one with a fast mod with dinosaurs (Including a few types of raptors and a few dinos that could stomp an army to death) and the Orcs mod. After this one has stopped, anyone interested in starting a bloodline game with...

Yeah I let it sit there for a long while, and it never went to anything but metal bars. I had tons and tons of metal bars all over the place; I had two smelters going with experienced smelters running them. Nothing was forbidden or locked up and the bar/block stockpile was right next to her. She fin...

Ok guys, I still have a dwarf in a strange mood wanting metal bars. Problem is I have two smelters going smelting every type I can, even the alloys. He's still not budging. Is it possible he wants a metal I don't have?

Hey, I have an odd one. I've got a Dwarf who has withdrawn from society. He's my weaponsmith, fortunately. No adamandite yet but at least I have iron and platinum. Anyway problem is he isn't telling me what he wants. He's been sitting in the metalsmith's shop for a bit now (...

Ok, so reading this board has gotten me into this game. Of course, I am having a few issues. I've read all these 'getting started' guides and the wiki, but a lot of things are simply not explained. 1) Assigning skills. Ok, so I gave my dwarves a buncha skills, but I obviously couldn't have them all....

Re: Let's Talk About Energy Production

I am curious - Why do people seem to think that gigantic investments into solar cells would boost the economy? After the initial expenditure, your cost per kwh is much much higher than buying from the grid for years. Not necessarily true, but even if it were, it's still missing the point. Right now...

Jon. Yes, Colbert's shtick is rather genius, but after a while it just get a bit old. He can't really change direction or tactics or methodologies because then it wouldn't be the same show. TDS has a lot more room to move around, it can go from satirical to sarcastic to flat-out mocking and then to ...

Basically post a book that you wouldn't recommend to anyone, you must justify your reason. Great expectations by Charles Dickens, Its too long and very boring. Agreed. Plus the story itself was really rather dreadful and not even remotely entertaining. Robert Asprin's books after Jodi Lynn Nye star...

I tend to be pretty non-picky. Can't stand: -brussels sprouts -Raw oysters -all wines and beers, if they can be considered food. Honestly, to me, wine tastes like what it is: Decaying fruit juice. It tastes like rotting and peutrification. It's like drinking the filtered juice out of the bottom of a...
