Re: What-If 0059: "Updating a Printed Wikipedia"

The idea is that the wikipedia is unavailable, right? The implementation is that there appears an overlay as soon as you request a document. But then you miss out on the great charcoal fire. :( Yeah, that's the part I don't get. If the blackout is an overlay, wouldn't the analog equivalent be a guy...

Re: There is only one* model consistent with CPT Symmetry

@op: You realize that you aren't using actual mathematics/physics language, or that you are using it incorrectly. In other words, this isn't you debating and sharing your ideas, so much as everyone being very generous and asking 20 questions to figure out what you're trying to say. This. It seems l...

Re: Rescue Boat to Save Little Child

As an alternative to jedelmania's method, I would suggest working off this: I was thinking solve for the time when they are equal with r=d/t but that only got me with the fact that for every unit of distance the child travels, the boat does 4x more. But I think you mean the boat travels 4 units for ...

Re: Poll: Pill to eliminate the need for sleep

This sounds like a dream for people who specifically make money off the labor of others. Give it to your employees, give it to your customers, watch the profits increase hugely. It would be a nightmare, as its normalization would exclusively come from its service to productivity and the economy. Do...

Re: What if Snowden is actually a traitor?

And, I mean, something else to consider here: Snowden has basically made it impossible for him to return to the States. He'll probably never see his family again. If this was just standard intel-selling, he didn't have to release the gov't malfeasance thing; he could have just kept quite, sold the ...

Re: Polynomial for fine structure constant and higgs boson m

Since people were complaining I wasn't being rigorous enough when defining simplicity of a function this is my attempt to do just that. I have had some of these ideas for a while but I held off posting them for so long because they seemed too incomplete. I guess having some measure of complexity is...

Re: Polynomial for fine structure constant and higgs boson m

Well I posted this earlier but the trigonometric functions can be viewed as a curvature in space. This allows it to agree with relativity theory since trigonometric functions are some of the simplest types of curves. Whenever you have a mass ratio one thing has to be more massive than another. I am...

Re: Neat Mental Arithmetic trickses

I learned the divisibility test for 7 this last year, after teaching the rest of the divisibility rules to my students and finding out it existed: Double the last digit, subtract it from the remaining digits, is it a multiple of 7? If you can't tell, repeat the process until you know whether it is ...
