Re: Mac Docks vs. Windows Taskbar

I think windows 7 is currently the best UI in existence. The idea of pinning you're most used apps to the bar is ultimate. There are just a couple things I'd like to change about it, and have it ported to xfce :P 1) Multiple desktops. The main reason for, say, having multiple firefox windows open is...

I agree fully. No, we do not need a breeding plan! Science will save our collective asses and allow us to be genetically engineered! Gattaca here we come!

Looking for a webhost (free)

I'm playing around a bit with html/css, and am trying to find a web host that will offer the following: Free hosting No adds Unlimited bandwidth (least priority) Scripts(PHP, Perl, Python?) FTP Subdomain I'm not asking for a lot, am I? Meh, sites like Yola and Weebly offer much more - except for ftp...

Re: Human Rights Discussion

(Your Post) Compintuit, I think part of the basic point of rights is that they CAN be violated. The idea of a human right is not that it is a guarantee, but that it is wrong for another to violate it. Consider the (U.S.) Declaration of Independence. The reason it was written was because the named r...

Re: Human Rights Discussion

And with all due respect, I think CS Lewis is a fail after reading that passage. I don't bullshit to myself that I'm an exception when I pass someone in line. I am fully aware of what I do - and do it for it's lack of consequences, combined with goals I feel pressing enough to piss a few people off...

Re: Design your own ideal education system

And this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_redlands#Johnston_Center_for_Integrative_Studies Although, I must say, if it sounds and looks great on paper, it very well might not be in reality. The Montessori school system seems awesome, but a few friends who went to it wish they hadn't. I d...

It already exists:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudbury_school

Too bad it's so damn hard to get into - I'd love to go there.

Re: Human Rights Discussion

People have some kind of rights (at least most people), I think we can agree on that. Not really. We can agree that in many countries there exists the legal concept of "human rights." Rights are just negative ways of talking about laws. Think about the phrasing of the "Bill of Rights...

Re: Redefining Division, a non-multiplicative inversion

I'm lost at how we divide by negatives, then. Doesn't that just make the groups overlap? And I don't understand how to divide by non-integers.
Makes much more sense the way it is...

Re: What is the smallest positive integer with no google hits?

EDIT: just beat myself - try 79*34629 That's only 7 digits. Is that supposed to be multiplication, or an extra star to foil the Google bot? Either interpretation returns multiple hits. It didn't really make any sense, but this guy added stars, so I figured operations were acceptable - is that not t...

Smallest yet - 7349*3019:)

EDIT: just beat myself - try 79*34629
That's only 7 digits.

I don't think there are any six digit numbers not indexed, as it only takes a megabyte to store each and everyone of them. Kudos to anyone who can find a result with less then 5 results, though.

Age discrimination: is there a better way?

Hello XKCD! I've been reading a lot around here, and have found this as one of the smartest places of discussion on the net. So I'm posting my problem here. A great deal of my thoughts come down to the children - or rather, those who are judged unable to look after themselves/making responsible disc...
