That link made me realise I have built up a resistance to TvTropes. I just looked around for 3 minutes and then noticed I had 5 other TvTropes tabs open from weeks ago and I'd never finished them because I'd been reading other things. I didn't look at those tabs for long either.

At my school:
User name: last digit of the year you started at the school in + first initial + surname, up to 8 characters
Password: "password", by default. In our first times using the computer rooms, we were made to change them though.

If you're using Windows, go into the language settings and enable the US-International keyboard layout, making the right Alt key into AltGr. That also turns a few keys into dead keys; it's a bit odd to get used to, but you'll have an em dash and stuff.

I've seen some shops price their items so that after tax, your total comes out to a (relatively) even number. It cuts down on having to deal with a lot of spare change...
