Yep, that's it! There is another way, though - any ideas?

Thévenin and Norton black boxes

A challenge for those who have some familiarity with electronics, first told to me by my father: You have two black boxes, each with two electrical terminals. Inside one is a perfect 1V voltage source in series with a perfect 1 ohm resistor, and inside the other is a perfect 1A current source in par...

Re: Is your ZIP code prime?

Again, bugger! I knew I'd gone wrong somewhere. I'm no good at maths - that's why I do engineering...
No idea if 15,061,828,639 is prime, but probably not.

Re: Is your ZIP code prime?

Mine's GU34 5LU, and 345 patently isn't prime. GU345LU only makes sense as a number if you read it in base 31 or higher. Incidentally in base 31 it comes out as 30 × 31 + 21 × 961 + 5 × 29791 + 4 × 923521 + 3 × 28629151 + 30 × 887503681 + 16 × 27512614111 = 930 + 20181 + 148955 + 3694084 + 257662359...

Or swimming. I went over to the pool today, and for about half an hour just sort of floated on my back, and that just felt seriously awesome. I need to do that more often. I just love messing aboout in the pool with friends - doing human pyramids and handstands and playing "knights". Now ...

Re: Slacker aphorisms

Time and tide wait for no man... but who cares? It'll be back again in six hours. He who hesitates is clearly thinking properly. "England expects that every man will do his duty," but it can wait. When in Rome, do as the Romans do... have a really long coffee break. Slow and steady wins th...

Hi there, ladies and gents - I've been lurking intermittently for a while, although I've never actually posted anything. My friend persuaded me to get an account some time ago but this is the first I've used it. I'm a first-year Engineering student, age 19, and I live in the Fens (during term time) ...
