Re: How do you buy your music?

download illegally (preferably 320 at least), then if i like it, buy the vinyl. if i don't like it, delete it.

the artists i like get my money, but i don't end up spending money on a rubbish record.

Re: Movies with a meaning

but I also feel strongly we shouldn't accept a "meaning" because someone came up with some justification for it. We have the ability to rationalize damn near anything, whether or not it's reasonable to do so, after all. Right, but what's the utility in discounting meanings, exactly? What ...

Re: Awesome bands that nobody's heard of

Well, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea got a 10 on Pitchfork, which means liking them instantly gives you indie cred. I think they're probably one of the more widely known bands of their type (meaning, quirky lyrics with an instantly recognizable and easily dislikable lead singer). not really. liking ...

Re: Hokey Pokey

i heard the guy who invented the dance died recently, it sucks.

what's worse, the funeral was a shambles, they had such trouble putting him into the coffin.

they put his left leg, then took it out. they put it in, then out, then shook it all about.

Re: Need further reading suggestions (Nat. Sci.) for Cambridge

Looking through the undergrad texts, or those on similar subjects, seems a safe bet. It's what I did for my Oxford interview (not Natural Science, for Philosophy: quite far removed, really) and they seemed to be somewhat impressed, and I'm in my second year there now. Be sure, though, not to oversho...

Re: BULLIES ;_;

i've never encountered any serious physical bullying, but attending an all girl boarding school resulted in a lot of emotional and psychological bullying. there was a clique mentality, but it more revolved around who your parents were, or who they knew. i'm never one to resort to the "all girls...

Re: Best Concert You've Been To

Amanda Fucking Palmer and The Danger Ensemble. Unfair amounts of awesome. I'm trying to pretend it hasn't finished yet by listening to the CDs. i saw her at the edinburgh festival a couple of years ago, it was pretty amazing. she was doing a 3 week run of shows there, i saw about four or five. at t...

Re: If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?

no, no, you're all wrong. the worst bit is the smug look on their face, as if they believe they've stumped you and come up with an objection to your theory that you just absolutley hadn't thought of. it's a bit of a smirm, with a tiny bit of eyebrow raising thrown in there for a good mix.

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

hello.

i arrange flowers and play the cello and over analyse everything. i am often accidentally scathing. i am more often purposefully scathing. i'm in my second year of a philosophy, politics and economics degree at oxford. i am probably going to fail and live in a box. but that's okay.

Re: No Vote No Right To Complain?

I still think you have the right to complain, as your vote wouldn't have made a difference no matter what. This surely depends on the electoral system? This is largely true for FPTP systems, but not for proportional representation. Anyway, I think the idea put forth in the thread title is slightly ...
