Re: The Newsroom (HBO series)

I've seen some people suggesting that for the most part, you can only really watch one Sorkin show; after that, any of the others just seem too-- familiar, in the characters and the attitudes and especially in the lines, and not in a way that works. I am a big fan of Sorkin and I agree, there are a...

Re: Rape Culture (Obvious Trigger Warning)

I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but Republican proposals to redefine the term "rape victim" to "rape accuser," are so disgusting to me I want to vomit in someone's eye. Why is that ? I'm not american and English is not my first language so I must make some assumption...

Re: Private life and politics

I'd hope that the line for criminality is roughly in the same place as over here

In terms of rape I think it is pretty much the same, the difference lies in what is considered harassment / excessive I would think.

Re: Private life and politics

If someone is cheating on his spouse, I'd be a lot less happy about him being in office, regardless of liberal vs. conservative social views. If someone is willing to break the oath that goes "I take you to be my lawfully wedded wife, and promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in ...

Re: French Flag Insulter Fined Fortuitously

A little perspective on this issue from France : - The decree in question was passed in july 2010, which may tell you (if you know a little about french politics) that it is in fact highly controversial, passing it during the holidays bypasses the public debate (insert obligatory jokes about French ...

Re: Perfect Moments In Music

- The prelude to Bach's first cello suite, I remember the opening of the evening news in 1989 : Rostropovitch playing that in front of a Berlin wall that had just crumbled. One of the most important early memory of world events I retain, and certainly the most beautiful. - "Thinking about you&q...

Re: Are preservatives bad for you?

I just understood why I've been completely confused with this thread...
In french "preservatif" = condom, try rereading the whole thread with that in mind and wonder why the OP is pissed at his girlfriend because she doesn't want him to use condoms...
