Re: 1256: "Questions"

Simpler answer to why is Arwen dying:

Elves are immortal, but they can actually die from one of two things:

1. Die in battle
2. Die of a broken heart

Arwen was dying because her heart was breaking. This is the way Tolkien envisioned elves. His book, his rules.

Thank you Randall! I have been writing dates like this for the last 13 years, after reading about the standard, and no one gets it. <redneck voice> Errr, why you all put that ther' year first?? </redneck voice> Sadly, the people that I interact with to write checks to probably don't read XKCD. :(

I would love to see grocery stores put a sign on the front of every parking space that says "don't forget your old bag."

But they should put the same sign on the exit to the store as well, so you don't leave your wife in there accidentally.

This comic doesn't trivialize warfare any more than ancient war reinactment does. It's all painful, whether it happened this year or 100 years ago. People shouldn't kill other people, and when governments tell their citizens to kill others, that government needs to be replaced.

One premise is that the News Media never before relied on the voices of the people. They always did, but with the Internet, they just don't have to work as hard. A second premise is that the News Media, more than the general public, are more apt to have factual reporting. They do not. The third prem...
