Re: Terra Nova

It`s very similar to the UK series outcasts. It`s nowhere near as good as misfits. You might like it if you like the vampire diaries. It`s good to watch if you enjoy shouting "YOU FOOLS" at the screen while watching. Latest episode. Since the portal stabiliser was built from pieces transpo...

Re: Well, this could change things (neutrinos)

String theory is very cool. That`s one of my problems with it. It`s a very seductive hypothosis. I want it to be true. Things that I find cool have to be held at a higher standard of evidence than things that are boring. In the past I`ve made hypotheses that fit all the data and just run with them b...

Re: Well, this could change things (neutrinos)

That`s kind of close to what a New Scientist article said this week. ( Can`t link sorry) High energy neutrinos might switch to sterile neutrinos ( In string theory a closed loop of string) in mid flight allowing them to shortcut the distance by leaving the brane that our space-time is embedded in. T...

Re: Can anyone explain this slide pls? (Circle Hough Transfo

You are going to kick yourself. To define a circle on a 2d plane you need an X position, a Y position and a radius. It might help to think of it as 3 variables rather than 3 dimensions. I`m guessing you know that already. You have a sharp edge at x,y . From this you have a gradient , a direction, a ...

Re: Rossi Cold Fusion Validated by Swedish Skeptic's Society

@minerva. Sorry. I seem to have created a communication failure. Deep_Thought`s post above your`s is spot on. In future I`ll stick to a straight forward way of saying things. To make it very clear my first post in this thread was a list of things that sounded wrong. I was going for informative and f...

Re: Rossi Cold Fusion Validated by Swedish Skeptic's Society

That list is the result of a little google research. It`s the things that made me WTF. Including the protons wearing little masks. The main source of energy is the deutrons converting into helium. The copper is just a neat side effect of the magic fusion powder. Obviously the international patent re...

Re: Rossi Cold Fusion Validated by Swedish Skeptic's Society

How reputable is the journal of nuclear physics? It seems to be full of LENR papers. Edit: Not very. It`s published by Rossi himself. Also an Italian patent has been granted. The international patent is pending. WO/2009/125444. The first commercial reactors are being certified by the Greek ministry ...

Re: This seems impossible.

I did read those papers of yours, as it goes! Always interested in this stuff. These things are always like the EPR entanglement paradox of the uncertainty principle that Einstein posed many years ago. You just have to find the flaw in the reasoning like Bohr did, which was that uncertainty in meas...

Robert Prevedel, Deny R. Hamel, Roger Colbeck, Kent Fisher, Kevin J. Sorry for the incoherent babble. I got disturbed while typing. Re: This seems impossible.

I don`t know about the tv show but new scientist did an article on this. Unfortunately it`s behind a paywall. http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21028101.700-uncertainty-entangled-the-limits-of-quantum-weirdness.html Basically you entangle two particles and send one of them through the slits. Re: The scientific consensus on meditation

Basically you just get comfortable. Focus on the feel of breathing. If you notice any thoughts then drop them and go back to focusing on your breathing. The more you practice the better you get at it. Surprisingly the noticing is much harder to do than the dropping. ( There are many different types ...

Re: The scientific consensus on meditation

I frequently meditate. I`ve had none of the effects from the original poster. What it does do for me is reduce repetitive thinking, makes me more aware, reduces fear when climbing and allows me to stop ear worms instantly. It`s simply used as a tool. No chakra or any other spiritual beliefs. I`d ela...

Re: Kirk vs. a Dalek

They can`t kill the Doctor. After the time wars he`s the only one who can idenify the Real daleks. All sub daleks must be exterminated. Kirk by himself doesn`t stand a chance. He has no psychic powers. With the full support of his crew I`d give them about 50/50. Daleks have never had a problem with ...

In some versions of many worlds other times are just special cases of other universes.
So travelling in time is as easy as travelling between universes. ( probably impossible)

Re: Accidentally ingesting insulin

Type one diabetic here. As has been said injecting 1 or two units would not be not so bad. It would be similar to drinking a few cans of diet red bull or taking a b6 pill ( I often use this to drop my sugar levels by a small amount without the pain of an injection). It would take massive amounts of ...

Thanks for the correction.
I should have said Linux is better supported by our SOC vendor for our specific needs.
As always it a horses for courses call.

I think you have just doomed me to an evening researching QNX.

Re: Do people get paid to work with linux?

I`m in the UK and it`s fairly easy to get a linux job here. I work on embedded camera systems. Mostly we use an ARM/DSP SOC. Linux is about the only thing that runs well in that environment. I`d recommend learning about image/signal processing and embedded C. Should ensure you have a fairly future p...

Also no-one mentions the lack of glasses.
