Paul Ryan calls rape a 'means of conception'.

Got linked by a friend - thought I should share to see what people think here. Not 100% sure I agree with the reporter to be honest, and I haven't see the interview yet so I don't think I'm in the best place to comment. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-slansky-/paul-ryan-said-something-_b_1832377....

Either way, you'll need to get agreement from at least one party before any laws passed. Which involves people who care about their re-election.

Re: Study Suggests Politicians Should Be Chosen at Random

To be honest, I don't think this would be a bad idea. My only question is - what would happen to people who didn't want to serve? I can imagine many people wouldn't mind being a politician and being able to make major decisions, but I can also imagine many people might want to do something else. And...

Woah, this thread is alive???

9th-15th of April is the session break for my uni, so I'd be free for a day then. After then I probably wouldn't be free till the end of June (post-exams). 5 subjects + tutoring 3 subjects + running a society + research = v. busy.

Re: Temperature on the Moon

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you taken the entire heat energy of your model human here? So to drop 1 degree you wouldn't need 10.5 days, but 10.5/310 days, or ~50 minutes. Which seems a much more reasonable estimate to me - even with radiation being negligible, 10.5 days is a massive amount ...

To make a contrast, suppose that you had an ad where a girl is in an office wearing pants and a dress shirt, and some guy comes up to her and says something along the lines of 'If you're going to wear something like that, what makes you think you're a woman anymore?', to which she pulls out the tamp...

I think new Mogwai tops the list for me, followed by Explosions, and then Radiohead. However, there's 3 albums (Dream Theater, Opeth, Steven Wilson) that I haven't listened to enough to know how I'd fit them in the 'list' (if there was one) - but they're definitely up there. Define 'good'? I would say it's most definitely not good, in any ethical sense, that the villagers were put in the situation where they had to resort to this, and that's the fault of the corrupt administration. As for the villagers actions, I really don't see them as unjustified given what happened....

A potential good incentive - if an international fund can be started for green technology/investment etc, and it is used to fund only projects that are run in and by people from signatories. @sourmilk: If you have to receive medical attention, or if you start committing crimes because of a drug problem, then that becomes a definite concern of everyone else. @sourmilk and Ghostbear: I get the point that most of the information should be on the label, but most people don't read them (and they're often confusing). I'm pretty sure that at least in Aus, men can't buy the morning after pill at all, unless the pharmacist can physically contact your girlfriend and talk to them. It may be the same in the US. Re: I want to model the Universe. ALL OF IT

As someone who has modelled individual particles for a 3rd year physics lab, it is definitely a non-trivial challenge even without gravity. You probably want to read up on the Lennard-Jones 6-12 potential and use that. I guess your next step would be changing volumes and sizes of individual particle...

I guess the main thing is that the statement 'god(s) exist and created the universe' doesn't in itself make any predictions.
