(In pdcurses, at least) The macros KEY_ALT_L KEY_ALT_R KEY_CONTROL_L KEY_CONTROL_R are defined which give you the left and right alt and control keys. Search for them in curses.h to see if they're in your implementation.

Road hunting is usually illegal.
