Re: Clubs!

You, kind sir, have made a wonderful suggestion. Nerd club will certainly be a target club to leave behind. Because, uhm.... There's a ton of nerds. A TON. Possibly a metric ton.

Re: High School Pranks

My school was pretty boring, I have to say. Though, they did a few good ones this past year. -They celebrated Arbor Day by putting a fairly large tree in the middle of the football field. -They floured everyone who came out of the sophomore class hallway, and numerous ones were caught. -Every Tuesda...

Re: Awesome Teacher Quotes

The librarian at my school was considered to be certifiably insane, given how she collected evil nun toys and kept a WALL O' QUOTES. A few: Lib:"There will be no joy in this library!" Kid:"Stop hitting me!" Lib:"I only hit you because you're stupid." "I find it biz...

Clubs!

So, I have recently moved from Texas to Maryland, and am enjoying the fairer weather. Not to mention, the gnats. The lovely gnats. Anyway, I am going to be going to a school (Junior year) which opened to start the 2007-2008 school year. A population of about 1500 people roam its halls. I looked thro...

What's the deal with airline food?

Crappy joke aside, there is a point to this. We all know that airline food sucks, whether because it's been mass-produced or because... it sucks. Either way, this got me to thinking. "This is food made by actual chefs. Actual trained chefs. They know how to season stuff. Why does this taste so ...

Re: "Named" vs "Called"

'Named' implies personification of a thing. To name something means that you give it a human characteristic, in the form of a name. After that, it's a matter of gender. 'Called' implies neutrality toward a given named thing, such as a species. This is the neuter form. "I named my bird Fred.&quo...

Re: Best secondary language besides spanish

For talking to all those people in South Africa who don't know a word of English? And otherwise the same could be said of German, which is the 10th most commonly spoken language, as opposed to 100th for Afrikaans. German is farther away from the Scandinavian languages though. I know Dutch speakers ...

This is why I want to marry these boards.

This is an amazing thing, for sure. Now to make some exploding chalk and convince someone to test the sample for calcium deposits.

Re: Awesome Teacher Quotes

In my school, the Latin section of the language department is notorious for hiring insane teachers. From Ms. McVey.: "Because you guys have had 3 teachers in 3 years, I call this the Defense Against the Dark Arts Class. Now translate Harry Potter from Latin." Rasmussen: "I love coffee...

8. While coming in class, let a couple of friends in those antiradiation (or any other) suits take you and carry you away, while screaming "I don't want back, I don't want to go back!!" Dear god, it's no wonder they're taking you away! This is a PeeWee Herman scenario! God forbid you touc...

Re: Stupid classmates

Having gone to a private, Catholic school for the past two highschool years, and having wanted to kill myself for 90% of the time, I have learned things about the classes: Math you can get distracted with later. Science, if you get it, can be ignored. Since I frequent xkcd, guess what I did? Electiv...

Re: Best secondary language besides spanish

I'd have to say, for my money, that either Latin, Greek, Arabic (Please pick a specific dialect, like Masri) , or French would be most useful, for the following reasons: -Latin and Greek make up the basis of a hell of a lot of languages out there, and you get basic education in most Romance language...

Re: When you think, how do you refer to yourself?

I channel every teacher I've ever had and drop the pronoun. "Stop reading that article and do your laundry." Now that I think, though, I have to say that when I'm talking about something I don't particularly feel strongly about, I say 'I'. "I should really go to the store..." For...

Re: 169 puzzles (was 'mind trap')

Why does this farmer have five bags of gold in the first place? Is he some sort of farmer-turned-thief who had just raided Fort Knox? Also, back to the beginning: a pear tree produces 5 branches each branch hold 7 plums, how many plums are there? No spoiler for you. They are not of the same family, a...
