Re: Books you never finished

Oh I'll probably upset people here.

I could never get through the Hitchhiker's Guide series. It took me three tries just to get through the first book.
Headcrash by Bruce Bethke
The Lord of the Rings series. Started with The Hobbit, made it through the first chapter and called it quits.

Re: What is your favourite book?

I can't seem to read anything "serious," so my list will not be impressive. The Dark Tower series by Stephen King Going Postal and The Hogfather by Terry Pratchett Mr. Commitment by Mike Gayle A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin I enjoy the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jord...

Re: I need a book recommendation (Renamed : Recom'd me a book)

Genetic? Maybe. My father loved to read for pleasure (still does, but has a bad habit of either losing my books or forgetting to return them), but my mother abhors reading anything besides the tabloids. My brother and sister are just as bad, though my sis will make attempts every now and then. I alw...

Re: I need a book recommendation (Renamed : Recom'd me a book)

I read all of them and enjoyed them way before I was a teen, but when I read them again as an adult, I saw a whole new layer there. You worded that much better than I could have. This is what I meant. I haven't come across a pre-teen lately who has taken up any type of novel that isn't just fluff. ...

But... but.. it's so brilliant!

I just don't think it would be a good recommendation for a pre-teen (though i dont think the age has been determined?). It's one of those books that you only really appreciate when you're older, in my opinion.

Yeah, that would be vital information...
I'm 28. I have no idea how old I was when she gave us the video. Maybe 8? I have no friggin' clue.

Re: I need a book recommendation (Renamed : Recom'd me a book)

I'm not sure I'd recommend Alice in Wonderland or the Hobbit. I found both novels to be rather difficult to get into. Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman are always good reads, regardless of age (unless she's pre-teen... then not so much). One series I absolutely adored was The Circle of Magic series by...

Re: Things you remember watching but can't remember the name of

I had to register just on the off-chance you kids knew what I was talking about. Years and years and years ago, when I was a wee lass, my mother bought us this VHS tape that had a random collection of cartoons on it. Most of them had sing-along songs with the little bouncing ball (remember those? Fo...
