I think people should have kids for whatever reason they want, selfish, altruistic, or otherwise. I think that's a little overly general, and I mostly disagree with you. People don't need to justify their desire to have children, but there are absolutely wrong reasons to want children. That's fair....

The vast majority of humans are capable of empathy. Acting like there's some danger of altruists breeding themselves out is kind of absurd.
