Re: Dune D6: Break, Eject! Eject, Eject!

I've already got one win, and my second win condition is a lyncher (I'm not about to disclose who, of course). Since I don't really have any idea who my target is at this point (maybe do to a lack of flavor knowledge), I figure I'm best served by lynching anyone and everyone. I'll sell my vote to the highest bidder.

Re: Dune D5: Check Out My New Weapon

First off,
unvote adacore

As mentioned, wasn't really intended to lynch so much as "play the damn game already folks"

I still don't like that fact that we're looking at a lurker lynch one way or another. This late in the game, I feel that's something that we should leave to the mod, and be focused on the gameplay itself.

The problem with that, I think, is that with the Harkonnen presumably all but gone, things are getting kind of messy with second win conditions, and everyone seems to be holding their cards close to their chest. My one thought is that, if there is a single Harkonnen left in the game, it's probably reasonable to treat them as a SK with a separate win condition. I feel we've gotten kind of locked into an "us vs them" mentality in this game, and that doesn't reflect what's actually going on anymore.

I don't know how to break this deadlock, though. I don't even feel going back and finding scummy-seeming players is likely to be fruitful.

weiyaoli wrote:Any particular reason for the vote there P_E?

Not particularly, beyond lurking like crazy. No posts during day 4 or 5 (so far) is awful - to the point where I'd consider the real possibility they haven't been modkilled yet because they've been doing things behind the scenes instead, and I tend to distrust that.

That said, lynching a lurker on D5 is pretty sad, and I think we can do better. I just wanted to get something happening.

Re: Dune D5: Check Out My New Weapon

OK, who took my* package? Am I really blind enough to have missed that? I reread the past couple pages, I didn't see anyone take it. It's like standing in a room of ninjas. I don't see anything, I don't hear anything, but stuff seems to happen. Maybe.

I highly doubt that ameretrifle was telling the truth about being the last Harkonnen, by the way. Why would she say that (if it were true)? It seems more likely that there is another one (or more). Have we seen Piter de Vries yet?
If it were true, I imagine we would not have seen a night kill last night. I suppose the kills we've seen could have come from another faction, or be the work of a lone individual, but I'd consider that rather more unlikely.

It does highlight that we're a little blind even to the state of the game, though. If the kill was the work of a non-Harkonnen, we could have ended one of the apparent axis of the game, not know it, and not be sure where to go. I think giving some consideration to the other conditions needed to end the game is probably wise - I'd guess it's probably Fremen/Spice Addicts, with Fremen the nominal "town." The lack of a second night kill, though, makes me think it's not really a second scum/town situation.

Re: Dune D4: Walk Without Rhythm

I really don't know a whole lot of the flavour, but I've basically worked off the wiki and the assumption that it's Atreides vs Karkonnen and a mostly orthogonal Fremen vs Spice Addicts, with a decent sprinkling of independents and functionally-independents. That's been more than enough for me to make decent guesses at who I should expect to have win conditions in alignment with my own.

I've also been playing largely by instinct (I don't generally make notes for mafia games, I just make it up as I go). My gut is saying that lynching AMT probably isn't a bad idea, but it's not going to be all that great, either. I'm not going to cast a vote there, although I don't really have anyone better in mind at the moment.

I think the latter is more likely. Irulan can wait if we have a shot at getting the Baron.

unvote: AMT
vote: Dr Ug
I can buy that quite easily, and I'd like to see that shot taken, I think.

Vote: Dr Ug

The whole thing sounds fishy, and regardless of what kind of fish it is, I don't like it. A lynch is a damn good way to clean up the mud.

AMT is only slightly less suspicious, but I have an easier time swallowing that story than Dr Ug's

I have a feeling that trying to disassemble it to see how it works probably won't end well, so I'll hold off on that for now.

I'm also getting the same feeling as Buffy - everything seems to be going almost too good. Could there be another faction we should worry about? On a related note, who or what is a "hunter-seeker"?

I'm a little upset that we kind of rushed that lynch, though. I'd really like to have known if cycoden had a reason to suggest we vote for BigNose. I'm inclined just to treat it as fishing for an alternate lynch candidate to save his own skin, but I think there was a lot of discussion left there. 4 quick votes, back to back, with little discussion, doesn't sit too well with me.

Re: Dune D2: I am Mauve'bib, the Kumkwat Haagendasz!

Whoo, sorry I've been absent again - I've been following the thread, but until the past 24 hours there hasn't been a whole lot that I've been able to wrap my mind around - or much at all, really.

I do agree that cycoden needs to be lynched, but I think we've lost any advantage in doing so sharpish. I'd like to wait for a)flavour regarding mpolo and b) explanations from cycoden about both killing mpolo and voting BigNose. If he's highly recommending it, I'd like to know why - even if it's not really pro or anti town (or however close we can get to that in this game), there are so many other win conditions that every bit of information can, I think, help shed light on others motives (and thus help differentiate scum and conflicted town, for examples, on the idea that lynching scum is still better as they probably have more power, being a large voting block).

However, who thinks that lataro is being honest in his accusation of cycoden? I am inclined to think that he is, but I think it might just be too good to be true. Honestly, I wouldn't put it past him to try to tie up town for another day lynching a random player. And, considering that he didn't give us any info on what this victory condition he wants to fulfill is, or why he just bussed his fellow scum, this is looking kinda fishy. Thoughts? :?
I figure we can lynch him and sort it out in the morning, frankly. I can't see this lynch going any other way, or why we'd want it to at this point, and we're staring down a deadline anyways.

Re: Dune D1: Don't be shocked by the tone of my voice

I've finally got a lot of the other stuff out of the way that needed to get out of the way, so I can actually do something in the game!

I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed by the game setup+flavour, but I'm hoping that clears up soon. I'm trying to cross-link other's analysis so that, once we have some idea of who is what, we have a ready made batch of connections. Hopefully that will be done tonight still.

Right now, though, I'm seriously suspicious of mpolo. They've stated a win condition that I read, at best, as "not a threat to <town/good guys/etc> until end game" which is less than comforting. Throw in some major fluffy posts (like summarizing the game to date, without giving any actual thoughts on it) and defending what are currently the two scummiest players (based on votes), and I don't like what I see.

I'd like to have an opinion on Lataro and BigNose, but frankly I've found both of them have seemed scummy in every game I've played with them, so I'm a little biased. My gut says that Lataro, at least, is in the same place as me - not entirely engaged with the game - and combined with the avatar, that makes me think scum without valid game reason. BigNose, I need to reread to be sure.

Pending further thought on my part (since I want to actually post in this game!), I'm leaning towards an mpolo or possible BigNose lynch?

Re: Dune D1: Don't be shocked by the tone of my voice

Well, I've been a terrible, terrible replacement so far, having done very little. I just finished reading the thread end-to-end, and am a bit frustrated. I don't know enough flavour to have a lot of input on role spec, but my gut says there's some useful information already out there. In particular, I'm trying to parse people's opinions on how to treat the multiple win conditions, and how that might play out. While it seems to make things more complicated, I think it also doubles the data in play, making it easier to figure something out.

The only player to really, solidly trip any sort of gut instinct on my read through was mister k, who I'm inclined to think might have one "win-with-town" win condition and one that is more, um, morally ambiguous. Unfortunately, it's mostly a gut reaction to some of his views on how to play multiple win conditions, and I don't trust my gut a whole lot.

I am curious about the original flavour's Mav-Lady Jessica* connection. Unless I missed it (possible), I don't think Mavketl has actually commented on it (at least not directly. I'm not sure too much speculation in that direction is a good idea (L. Jessica would be one of the good guys, correct?), but the mod-direction is something I want to keep in mind.

Re: Dune D1: Don't be shocked by the tone of my voice

Hello, folks, I'm replacing...er, I'm not even sure, actually.

It doesn't look like there's a mind boggling amount to get through, yet, so hopefully I'll be taking a more active role soon. Although a quick skim indicates a lot of role spec, which I'm a little rusty on.
