Re: ''Inside Joke'' Discussion (#794)

However, 1492 was the same year the globe was invented. All cultures that were traveled & literate thought the world was round. Only tiny stone-aged tribes ever thought the world was flat. The idea Christopher Columbus proved to Italians that the world was round is a myth, started by Washington...

Re: ''Inside Joke'' Discussion (#794)

A priest, making the rounds of his parish on Easter Eve, and sprinkling holy water in the houses as is customary, came to a painter's room, where he sprinkled the water on some of his pictures. The painter turned round, somewhat angered, and asked him, "Why has this sprinkling been bestowed upo...

Re: "Dyslexics" Discussion

Had a boss once who was factually dyslexic (not over-diagnosed), and he couldn't stop teasing us about it.

I wrote on the white board, "dyslexics of the world untie!"

He walked into the lab and read, "dyslexics of the world unite!"

That's when I ... "got" it.

Re: "Seismic Waves" Discussion

This morning (Sydney 2010-04-06 08:00 UTC+10:00) the LA earthquake was about to be the biggest news story. Ten hours later (Sydney 2010-04-06 18:00 UTC +10:00), there is nothing (although apparently there was an earthquake in mexico). That's because there were only two deaths, Mexicans, so of cours...

The movie was stupid because Jake could not use his "best of both worlds" abilities to assume the moral high ground and negotiate a peaceful solution. So I gave it the XKCD-style treatment: http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_ky2pt4B9Es1qb06rbo1_1280.png?AWSAccessKeyId=0RYTHV9YY...

Television ossified the evolution of dialects. Chat (not L33T) will restore it. L33T is an "argot" - a cryptic language used by an underworld. http://zeekland.zeroplayer.com/stories/009_Uncle_Wiggilys_Travels/ZeekLand0533.png http://zeekland.zeroplayer.com/stories/009_Uncle_Wiggilys_Travel...
