Re: 1783: "Emails"

Glad I'm not the only one who's negligent about emails.

I cleared mine out in December with a lot of 'select all' and deletes.

5,300+ unread emails.

Mahnarch, thank you for making this thread beautiful.

:D

I would have done the deer legs, too, but doing just the hunter's took me half an hour.

Re: 1776: Reindeer

One theory I've not seen around (having not done much research, so it's probably out there) is that the 8-legged steed descends from representative art where speed is conveyed by drawing each of the 4 legs twice (comics with the Flash in often have strobing after-images to convey speed and path of ...

Re: 1754: "Tornado Safety Tips"

I seriously want a game based on this. Where either you are the tornado, and must seek out ideal situations to traverse the country, OR (Perhaps better yet) Sim Tornado: In which you must create an environment in which your precious pet Tornado may thrive. Tell me you wouldn't play that. Like a Tam...

I guess it's more like a Poisson curve: slight tipping if there's barely any design time (you just add some glitter to a standard cup), lots of tipping if there's a bit of design time (start with a model of godzilla, then add glitter, then you're out of time to debate or evaluate tip resistance) an...

How about next time we go to an asteroid that we're just going to crash into (and litter), anyway, how about we start slamming these things into Mars afterwards so we can start terraforming? (e.g. - build moar bigger orbiter/tug satellites)

There's no life there. They can stop wasting time.

"Free-floating"? How does that work? It's like the floaters in your eye, only the eye is space and the vitreous humour is vaccuum. Okay, the analogy already breaks down once you mention that floaters lie between the lens and the photosensors, and the fact that floaters make you see less ....

Re: 1720: "Horses"

I suspect Randall is idealizing horses a little too much. Weren't horse-and-carriage accidents fairly common, too? I'm pretty sure a pedestrian gets killed early on in A Tale of Two Cities , and presumably carriages themselves would overturn when cornering etc. Still, nice comic and a point well ma...

[As clever as NASA is; I'm surprised they didn't put a smaller satellite inside Juno that would launch into the atmosphere right away - for comparisons]

Re: 1690: "Time-Tracking Software"

I found "List of helicopter prison escapes" only a quarter as entertaining as "List of quadcopter prison escapes." I can't see how that would work, unless you had a swarm of quadcopters to distract the guards while you made a run for it. Maybe it's using a quadcopter to smuggle ...

His last time machine didn't even have newspapers. Then again, he could get out of his two-seat kayak to get some food any time he wanted. His next one probably won't, either, since newspaper itself is on the way out. This is a bit of a bother, because newspaper has long been the best paper to use ...
