Re: [Imperial College London] Question for anyone who goes t

A*A*AA in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and English Lit. respectively. I'm also taking STEP1 and AEA (my second choice is Warwick). I think I'm in danger of losing my A* grade in Further Maths and my A grade in English Lit, while I'm fairly sure that I've got a 1 or 2 in STEP1 already.

Re: Private vs. Public school, and some underlying stereotyp

I'd like to weigh in here, with the qualifier that I'm from the UK, so I don't know how the US system works, but anyway... In the UK, I attend a state-funded sixth form college (equivalent of high school, IIRC). Our 6th Form is consistently ranked as one of the top five state schools in the country ...

Re: [Imperial College London] Question for anyone who goes t

Right, at the moment I'm in danger of losing my A* grade for Further Maths and my A grade for English lit. My question is, given that English lit is unconnected to the course I want to do, and I'm fairly sure I've done well in STEP I and (going to do well in) AEA, what sort of chance would I have of...

[Imperial College London] Question for anyone who goes there

Hey guys. I lurk here more or less occasionally, as well as looking on the Dwarf Fortress thread(s). I've got a question today though.

If I dropped a grade in an unrelated subject (i.e. English Lit), would Imperial College be likely to drop me for my Joint Maths & Computer Science (JMC) course?

It's funny how you've wrote 951 here, and 451 in the blog :P. My fault for choosing a generic internet handle with a number, I suppose. Anyway, it was great fun meeting all of you guys, good luck in your interviews. Maybe we should have another G&Ds trip on wednesday or something... I dunno. Goo...

Everyone doing maths / computer science (or both) will be in town between 13th and 16th. Sounds like there's a fair few of us here. So far I count blubloblu, Kulantan, aliosha, Fifi and me. Might be a bit hard to get one time when not all of us have been snagged for interviews (evening would probabl...

Re: Games that aged well (Merge'd - Old Favorites)

Deus Ex is still brilliant. Thief and System Shock stand well with it. Nethack has aged very well, despite being 25 years old it is still eminently playable. Not sure if roguelikes count though. I'd like to recommend Star Wars: Republic Commando. The best squad-based shooter for the masses (read: no...

I saw a better one. Someone dug past Medusa to get to the lower levels. At some point, he got a !ofGainLevel. He then quaffed it, without checking the BUC status. It was cursed. He rose up through the ceiling, right in front of Medusa.

15th Slate. Midspring. I can't go on. The smell is terrible. What? The butcher's shops? No, the dwarves. The unwashed filthy masses of this population. I can't remain here. I'm far too important a dwarf to be allowed to remain here in the rear-end of the kingdom. I only skimmed a little off the top....

My favourite game: don't have one. I always get bored and restless of a game after a while. Some of the classics that I go back to time and time again are - Nethack: Do I even need to explain this? It's Nethack. It makes cRPGs look like a crutch for the weak. - Dwarf Fortress: The universe recreated...

Pr0 tip: It's much more fun to figure things out as you go along. I used to refer to the wiki a lot, but it's more Fun trying things out and attempting to prevent the inevitable disaster when it comes. A fortress which runs smoothly gets boring for me, after a while.

Anything by Andy McNab, Christopher Paolini or Terry Goodkind. Apologies for McNab for lumping him in with the other two; his books are all right, but they're rather bland when it gets down to it.
