Re: Is Google too powerful?

If Google, a search engine, can affect stocks with just whitelisting then it's too powerful. And what's the basis for your assumption that Google whitelisting has a non-transitory effect on stock prices? Several Media Corp sites, including gambling.com and creditcardexpert.co.uk/, had penalties imp...

Re: Is Google too powerful?

As long as their algorithm was applied equally across all sites, their isn't really a problem. It just turnsout that penalizing wikipedia links reutns better results. On the other hand, if that link pentalty only applied to drug-forum.com, that is a whole other can of worms. The problem obviously i...

Re: IT Department Troubles

No that was a few years back and right now I am majoring in CS. The funny thing w/ my story, the dean should have known me as well. He was my counselor on picking classes, we had those kind of meeting with him about college choices, new school policies, etc with 1/3 of the students (it was done by l...

Re: High School Pranks

Best prank ever, but your school has to have a tunnel under a street for it to work right. Was going to do this but couldn't get group together to do it. My school is by a train station so this would've been perfect.

Re: Teachers that cannot teach

My Intro to Java teacher used spaghetti logic to teach programming. He's now teaching AP CS (thank god I'm outta there) as the old teacher for it was recalled by the National Guard (think that's what it was, some military thing). I feel really bad for the students in his class. Basically when people...

IT Department Troubles

I want to share a particularly frustrating, funny, and depressing story that happened to me a few years ago. (Suspension for View Page Source) I went to a very large high (1000 kids per year) school in a nice suburb with a very good selection of technology classes (we had A+ cert, MCSA, and CISCO cl...

Re: Palin-Beck 2012!

I can see it now, the Republican party's revival after all the nutjobs form their own party after the moderates refuse to vote for Palin. All the crazies end up outside of the Republican party and the Republican party ends up more moderate.

Re: Is Google too powerful?

I found this article interesting at The Register, especially this part... Follow the money - Several Media Corp sites, including gambling.com and http://www.creditcardexpert.co.uk/, had penalties imposed in October 2007, but were reprieved just last month, two years later. Announcing the lifting of ...

Re: Police charge teens for failure to order McDonalds properly?

I would say in this instance the teens should not have been charged with anything. If McDonald's is going to make a really annoying commercial that is about rapping at the drive through then how can they complain if someone orders with a rap, it's alright in your commercials, isn't it? I also unders...

Re: I need a book recommendation (Renamed : Recom'd me a book)

I would suggest Makers by Cory Doctorow for anyone who loved Cryptonomicon or Snow Crash. A great thing about this book is that it is free to download from his site. He actually has quite a nice spiel about how ebook publishers are "anti-copyright activists" which I totally agree with. The...
