Re: 1132: "Frequentists vs. Bayesians"

But isn't it true that it has been proven that nothing in the real world can be measured precisely? Once you get below Planck's Constant then there is no way anything can ever be measured, and every precise measurement will involve Planck's constant one way or another. So we know that there can nev...

I realised I sounded a lot less facetious than I intended on my last post. Whoops. But yeah, your case is a slightly smaller travesty. It's certainly far less bad than when I saw a reduced version of Pink Floyd's Echoes , without the "noise bit in the middle". Damn philistines. why would ...

I fought the Byzantines a bit more, and I've concluded that, in theory, Vardariotai are hella scary, but in practice, the AI has no idea how to use them. I parked a schiltron of Italian spear militia at a gate of a fortress I was taking (Nicosea). The Romaioi had a single spear militia unit or some...

Re: Diablo III

My point is more that nothing in the game is really barred to you if you don't grind for gear, which is in stark contrast to WoW. While Diablo games are certainly very gear dependent, if you make a run through the game, the gear you have will likely be sufficient to start you into Nightmare. If you...

Ahh, constellations. I have literally stared at some for minutes trying to see that warrior, lion, dog, or whatever that I was supposed to see there. I guess I am not imaginative enough or something. I like Sean Lock's explanation best: "Can I just ask one question? Is . . . maybe in the Greek...

Since when is it a sword? It's his belt. Everybody knows the phrase "Orion's belt". It's not just those three stars across his waist. Old ring belts tie in the front of the waist with a length hanging down from the tie, like this: (pictures) yes except Orion is a mythological Greek hero, ...

I disagree; we've been over this, not everyone plays the game the same way. I was perfectly entertained running through Nightmare and Hell, often with friends, and not farming bosses. I spent years playing D2 and maybe 3-4 hrs of that total was spent on public games trying for insane named gear. Th...
