Re: Language practice threads [new: Korean]

Well, might as well chip in: I've got fluency in speaking American English (duh?), Mandarin Chinese (mother tongue), Spanish, French (although quickly forgetting), Swahili (useless outside of 1, the US Navy or 2, outside of East Africa), and am learning Kigogo (a tribal language in Tanzania)

Re: Playlist of (good) nerdy songs?

A sprinkling of songs by Magnetic Fields are good AND nerdy, although most of them tend to just be nerdy...Unfortunately I can't remember any titles off the top of my head. And depending on how liberal your definition of nerdy is (ie if it includes world history), Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start ...

I theoretically have physical access: it's a 8 hour drive [to the city with the building that's housing our machines] if a certain bridge got re-built, but I won't know until the third hour if that bridge is there or not , and I think our driver is still out on Easter holidays. baka deshi in Japanese means stupid student. I believe strongly in encouraging people to have low expectations of me--makes it that much easier to meet them. Also, "baka deshi" shows up a lot in RuroKen, which at one point of my life I was stir crazy over. Lastly, I was kind of making fun ...

I have good ears. And take advantage of this by intentionally whistling 5-10 cents sharp or flat when other people are whistling so it creates beats--even when they drop/raise their pitch to try to match mine. In Kiswahili, there's around 14-16 noun classes (assuming you count singular and plural seperately, and whether or not abstract ideas have plural forms...), and its common to embed entire sentences within one word thanks to the prefix/infix/suffix system derived from Bantu languages. Here's a partia...
