Re: " One Two" Discussion

The part that I really don't get is the vampire. What does a vampire have to do with Primitive Cultures?

Re: "The Flake Equation" Discussion

Why did I just type c-h-i-n-a and in its place appeared "The Red Menace (that isn't that red, and is just kinda getting rich and not very menacing anymore)?" This is rather infuriating. I would have normally typed "a-n-n-o-y-i-n-g" except that typing it produced "*fantastic*...

Re: "The Flake Equation" Discussion

The proposed values fit in the "Flake Equation" is probably off by an order of magnitude. What's more, only a fraction of the "motivated to share" people have access to a media outlet. Think Africa, South America, most of India, Indochina and Indonesia and a significant part of ...

Re: "You Hang Up First" Discussion

Also, seems like pretty poor grammar in the title text to me. I suppose one has to read it like this: No, YOU <stumble past a series of post-breakup hookups in a daze as you slowly realize what you've lost and how unlikely you are ever to get it back> first. The desperate part is when the series ha...

Excellent analogy. No wonder I'm so fond of Space Elevators then. I find the Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada close to irresistible!

Geostationary physics aside, I would connect the cable/ribbon/tube to the earth for the simplest of reasons: wind. An ultralight thread gone with the wind does not sound very prudent.

A Space Elevator is my wildest dream.

I don't know what my favourite book is. There are many books that have proved important to me -Foucault's Pendulum (Umberto Eco), Thus Spoke Zaratustra (Nietzsche), Karamazov Brothers (Dostoevsky), Childhood's End (Clarke), the Foundation series (Asimov), Towards Planetary Thought (Axelos, non-ficti...

You know what people should speak? Latin. For all of Europe, the Americas, and Africa. Australia and Asia can do what they want. People needn't have to speak anything. Although Latin might arguably be a good idea, the very idea of people having to learn a dead language is quite contradictory. I am ...
