Re: 0826: "Guest Week: Zach Weiner (SMBC)"

I've been waiting for this since I first saw that they were doing guest comics but I'm sure Zach is way more excited about this than any of us are. Did anyone else from Quebec get confused about the KFP one? It took me a couple of reads before I noticed it wasn't PFK. Poulet Frit Kentucky, is what t...

Re: So when 2012 comes and goes, what's the next Doomsdate?

'cause I'm gettin' pretty sick of 'em (sorry for the apostrophe abuse). 2000 was kind of an obvious one, being the millenium and all. 2012 is based on white college students misinterpretation of ancient Mayan belief systems, but is still based on something . In 2013, what new Day of Destruction wil...

Re: What's a college student to do over the summer?

In my current situation I'm able to take more hours per week of classes during the summer than during the year. I was expelled and only able to take night classes for this past year but in the summer I'm allowed to take courses during the day as well as the night so September to May was my actual ti...

Re: Drug Dogs and Old Backpacks

Yeah, well it's a lot better than a school which needs drug dogs and weapons searches and doesn't have them. I'd still much much rather go to a school that doesn't have them and doesn't need them. The high school I went to had 2000 students, it's the biggest english high school in Quebec and probab...

Re: Hacking fast food

We got our first Taco Bell up here not too long ago. Quebec has pretty high standards for the meat/dairy that can be sold in restaurants, it might be the highest in North America but I'm not sure. The downside is that there's a lot of fast food places that have locations in the rest of Canada/USA bu...

I put forth the claim that troubadors and poets CAN be manly. And when the embassy came to see Achilles in his tent, what was he doing? Oh yeah, it was poetry. I'm pretty sure all Achilles was doing in his tent was bitching and whining. Don't get me wrong, you can be manly and be a poet but you hav...

Don't know for sure but I think they just have a quota that they have to reach so that they get their standard salary. Outstanding work might get you a bonus or promotion like it would in any other job but not a set amount of money for every ticket they give.

The Thing from the Fantastic Four does look an awful like a penis with full blown genital warts. Why the hell did they show us those slides in sex ed? WHY? On a serious note, you'd probably still be arrested even if no 'private parts' are showing because people would be freaked out and you'd be gene...

I don't really mind Abstruse Goose because it actually has some pretty good strips, it's best ones are definitely better than Randall's worst (Sacrilege! Burn the witch!). It's good enough that I can say that it's not a ripoff but just another strip in the same genre, a genre that was pioneered by X...

Re: xkcd sightings in your hometown (and other places)

Last semester my physics teacher used the 'pushing back the dawn' comic as well as a Calvin and Hobbes comic in his powerpoint for an angular momentum lecture. I also noticed 'Purity' posted on a math teacher's office door, which garnered a fair amount of positive remarks from my fellow math student...

Definitely formalism. Mathematics, like many other systems in society is composed of concepts and ideas. All are things we have developed over the milennia in order to interact with the natural world and get by with each other. Without humans, concepts such as art, love, truth, pi, morality, logic ...

I went whale watching last summer in Boston, it took us an hour to get far enough out then we spent almost an hour with the whales and came back, it was definitely a memorable experience. In the realm of music, the major guitar manufacturers have guitars that are made in China, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. The ones made in the US are supposed to be better, though I don't know how much of that is a result of the manufacturing location; it's entirely possible that they just u...

It's pretty simple: Randall = funny. Demetri = not funny. Seriously, I've tried on multiple occasions to watch that show, and every time, I turn it off after five awkward, laugh-free minutes of his pathetic hipster pseudo-humor. 95% of the time, I change the channel to Spongebob, which is far more ...
