Re: 1335: "Now"

Yeah, it's was also exactly 12 hours off for me, but it is fixed now. Really cool though. I'd like to find a way to turn this into a lockscreen or an app or something on my phone.

Edit: It changed again. Now there are hour markers.

Re: 1247: "The Mother of All Suspicious Files"

The IP address in question is related to a current event. Every Freedom Hosting website went down simultaneously at around 6:40am ET on Saturday morning, about the same time news of Marques’s arrest hit the Internet. If and when the websites have returned since the downtime, many have been infected ...

Re: 1188: "Bonding"

For all the obscure topics xkcd covers, why is it programming, one of the most basic geek activities, that evokes such virulent whining about not getting the joke? Because it's the only one in a foreign language? I think it's basic geek nature when they see bad code to comment and keep it inline. H...

Re: An Infinite Length String and what it contains

That link led to another link which led to a video from Vi Hart which probably inspired this conversation, as I'm subscribed to her. But, I would have watched that video almost a year ago.

jestingrabbit, That was exactly what I was getting at. Alright, I guess I'm a bit better at this math thing than I thought previously.

Re: An Infinite Length String and what it contains

This idea originally stemmed from thinking of what index 123456789 appears in pi. From what I could ascertain, pi isn't necessarily a normal number (but it likely is) and not being totally sure what a norma l number is, I might be wrong but...since pi is not necessarily a normal number, 123456789 do...

Re: An Infinite Length String and what it contains

In that case, it *could* contain one of them, but not more than one. Also, to be sure, any string of finite length could appear before pi/e but most certainly not after? Of course, since (dot) is not included, both pi and e are not able to be included directly, but the digits from them in order.

An Infinite Length String and what it contains

So I was considering a string of infinite length containing random entries from the set of digits (0-9). Similar to the 'monkey on a typewriter' thought experiment, what can we say about what this string will contain. Can we say that it may contain pi? or e ? Would it be possible for this string to ...

I know what bad kerning looks like, but I can never figure what good kerning looks like. It's a good thing I don't do it for a living.
