Re: Draw Mohammad Day

Here's an interesting response to Draw Muhammad Day. Well, I support his right to speak, but primarily so that I can laugh at him. The countries that partook in the Holocaust are the ones who've banned its denial, and while I see why they'd feel it's their responsibility, the best remedy to idiotic...

…We're disputing whether belief is binary. Perhaps absence of belief is its own category while beliefs in something related have a level of conviction. For example, somebody could lose their belief in a monotheistic religion yet still maintain a form of Deism with regards to an intelligent creator ...

Bill Maher sounds like anybody else whose opinion isn't defended by the science. He's sympathetic with the cause but knows it's not accepted so he instead panders to "Teach the Controversy." He is certainly not a force of good for scientific naturalism though I can see how, as a comedian, ...

The Narrative ('60 Minutes' video)

I found this piece linked on RichardDawkins.net along with a study detailing how young intellectuals of Muslim origin are tempted to join anti-Western groups because they are told the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are the West invading Islam. This is the narrative extremists weave to exploit the huma...

Re: Iranian Cleric: Women Cause Earthquakes

An atheist state is different from a secular state - a secular state should not involve itself in any matters relating to the existance of God either way. An atheist state denies the existance of God. You argue as though atheism is a positive claim. It isn't. Neither do all atheists deny the existe...

Re: Iranian Cleric: Women Cause Earthquakes

Secularism isn't the absense of religion. Religion can coexist with government, as it does in many places around the world. But again, it is the government that is atheistic since it lacks a religious bent of its own. Where did this "only two kinds" of atheism come from? I've never sugges...

Re: Iranian Cleric: Women Cause Earthquakes

Secularism attempts to remove the influence of religion and therefore is atheistic. Secularism is the separation of church from government , not the annihilation of religion.
