Re: Bullied bus monitor given $500000 for being bad at her j

Time to move on. For example, is there something specific about this case that triggers such widespread sympathy? Or is it just a weird effect of the internetz (I think I mentioned the Bieber)? I'd guess that many can intensely relate to it. Many of us have vivid memories of the malicious little ba...

Re: Ghana orders arrests of all Homosexuals in Western Regio

Looking up stuff online, that suspicion was only slightly less hard to find than pixels. I found contradictory claims about what's actually going on in there, so I think I'll put off being horrified until this afternoon, and read about it in mainstream media outlets once it hits those. There'll be p...

However, some people will take the ban on headgear as an asshole move. Treating folks in a way that they take as an asshole move is not worth this saving in hassle. It creates extra hassle elsewhere. Like, you know, giving exemptions to some groups but not others? I see your point, provided it's th...

Re: Pastafarian wears sieve in drivers licence photo

To my understanding the situation is like this. License photos of inferior quality (eg headgear), though functional, are a hassle. It is a lesser hassle to maintain high standards of quality in license photos. Therefore, those standards should be maintained. However, some people will take the ban on...

Yeah, this law looks like it fixes any problems that Florida has had with agenda-pushing doctors, fails to stop there, and keeps going several times as far in the opposite direction. It's been established that doctors ask about risk factors. The link mentions bike helmets and seat belts, and things ...

Agreed. Agreed. But I can't fault Halrandir for having this hit a sensitive spot, and choosing not ...

I get why people shouldn't cook due to opportunity costs, the lack of a freezer, or ADHD. For others... It's basic chemistry where you eat the results. This. Cooking simple meals is a matter of closely following algorithms. It may become more of an art form later on, but your basic soups, casseroles...

I think this is where we stand. 1. The boycott is dumb. Action movies should be evaluated based on the amount of kick-ass they deliver. 2. This happens in Finland as well. They also show The Snowman every Christmas morning, It's a Wonderful Life every Christmas afternoon, and the country's seminal war movie on Independence Day.

Loss of the self isn't the worst motive, since that implies there was some thought on the matter. Could be the worst common one.

People can be emotionally hurt all they please without it affecting their or their behavior's jerkishness a whit.

It's when they turn it into jerkish action that it becomes jerkishness.

Understandable, generally sympathetic jerkishness.
