Re: My school fails at computer security...

At my school exes are unable to be opened, C drive is unable to be accessed, cmd.exe opens but comes up with some message about being disabled and generally everything is blocked on the internet (inexplicably they over one holiday they installed powershell on all the computers and that works fine). ...

Re: Electronic Notepads

I found this whilst looking at the page linked from your original post. It seems to fulfill all of the criteria apart from being over budget. looking at the reviews there are some issues with the pen and it requires a separate application to be bought for OCR, so you might want to check out the revi...

Re: NTLM java library

I have tried jni and jna before but I am looking for a more crossplatform approach. CNTLM is also an executable, not a library by default.

Re: My school fails at computer security...

Just out of interest, what method do your schools use to filter the internet or is it unfiltered? My school uses a RM product called Janet that works through a proxy. They have had a lot of trouble blocking all the domains and subdomains of youtube and facebook, youtube.cf is nice and obscure by the...

Re: Java Swing UI - textfield bloat

Re: My school fails at computer security...

At my school if you open cmd.exe it comes up with the standard "blocked by admin" message and it refuses to run external .bats and .exes, but recently when we came back from a holiday we found that power shell had been installed on all the computers and worked just fine. Slight oversight o...

Re: My school fails at computer security...

My school has fairly lax security as there are lots of proxy websites that are unblocked and every one knows the wifi password as soon as they change it.

Re: Does studying computer science require I use a computer?

You would really need to go with a laptop, as you will need to do some programming or taking down of code in class, as said before. The main draw back is that it has no support for any programming, past javascript. Apple refuses to put any apps up that can be used for that so it is a bad choice for ...
