Re: 1100:" Vows"

I believe Randall is making a reference to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UIdI8khMkw which got pretty popular a year or so ago, except that the "wedding spoof play" is even more extreme than the fake-out walk. Thank you! But could somebody explain what's happening in the video? I don't u...

Re: 0943: "Empirical"

The joke's really funny, I like the comic very much. But I would like to point out to anyone in the forums who doesn't know it yet: "will" originally meant something akin to the modern word "want" (which lives on in the expression "be willing to"). Hence the expression ...

Like some of the other people who posted in this thread, I really like Fight Club.

I liked it each of the three times I watched it, and I assume I'll like it when/if I watch it again.

Heck, it's among my favourite movies.

So I guess I can't relate to the comic at all.

@SirMustapha: To be fair, the middle ground does not make for good comedy - and it's bland enough that a short commentary - like a webcomic - doesn't go well with it. "Things are complicated, there are no clear-cut distinctions and READ A BOOK to find out more" is not how comics work. As l...

The number of vowels matters in *writing*? Ok. So go with Finnish. A (nearly) bijective correspondence between individual letters and phonemes. Win: 100 per cent literacy. Easier speech synthesis. Lose: 28 letters in the alphabet (29 if you include the needs of certain names of Swedish origin). Poi...

So. The number of vowels matters in *writing*? Because come on. "queueing". Pronounce it. Count the vowels. Not more than in "going", depending on how you pronounce it and whether you count a semivowel. And, well, "going" has a diphtong, so if you count it as better tha...
