Re: Brian Jacques has died... So let's talk about Redwall

I can't remember when I first read Redwall, but I loved these books. I used to love the feast scenes. Everything sounded so tasty and amazing! And I loved the moles. I remember them being hilarious... I think Redwall was always my favourite, probably because it was the first one I read. I think I th...

@boatierra Impressive list. However, I would have thought that the female equivalent of 'tutor' would be 'governess'? Historically, children of wealthy families had either tutors or governesses, tutors being male and for sons, and governesses being female and for daughters. Some of my own to add... ...

Re: A slightly random Rant on Harry Potter (Spoilers, natura

The thing with the world-building is that again it's all from Harry's limited perspective. He has quite a blinkered view of the world, mainly because he didn't grow up in it, and because he probably just doesn't think about that sort of thing. He has some pretty big problems of his own... Most of th...

Re: A slightly random Rant on Harry Potter (Spoilers, natura

The problem with what we see about Hogwarts is that we see a snapshot. A snapshot through Harry's eyes. He is not a particularly studious person, is more interested in Quidditch and has a megalomaniac after him. Therefore, the likelihood of our seeing a true representation of the school's curriculum...

The main concern with prescribing placebos when the patient is expecting a function drug, though, is that it is a breaking of the patient-doctor trust that we come to expect of our doctors.
