There's a bug where high-level enchanting results in less valuable items then low-level. But I haven't heard about making it less valuable then vanilla.

The civil war storyline isn't made for mages, I realized when my chained lightning were one-shoting groups of several soldiers. That plus bow made the quest-line quite easy.
