Re: 1986: River Border

You thread-ninjaed me, had to delete my alternate OP. (You forgot the quotes around the title, BTW, and I think you also forgot the link on the image. (edit: Or not. Maybe I mis-tapped, first time.) Quickly correct it, before it gets corrected for you?) My own follow-on comment was: If we make the ...

I like to think he at least got the Boeing 747 correct and the rest of the message was data corruption and invalid error handling.

Re: 1628: Magnus

Well, I think our first pass should be a simple quantization of each persons abilities. It would likely be best if we come up with a system of common statistics that we believe can be reused in various formula's to descrbe situations. Additionally, certain candidates might have certain skills and at...

Re: 1518: "Typical Morning Routine"

I see a surprising amount of people with floor vents in this thread. They are actually rare in construction for obvious reasons. Depending on your house you may have floor, wall or ceiling vents. In the oldest houses the duct work is hanging free or they apply a false ceiling. These houses are typic...

I'm finding the humor in this one hard to understand. I'm sure I'm just being over analytical of the source code. I fear the stdout stack traces of recursive exceptions.

Re: 1160: "Drop Those Pounds"

I always though pound was a unit of mass. Is there a imperial unit for mass? Stormtroopers 3 ? No, that's the imperial unit of volume . I thought that was dagobels. This is actually all faulty information taught by the poor understanding of our own ambiguous unit of measurements in the US. The SLUG...

Re: What-if 0006: Glass Half Empty

Actually, none of the glasses were half empty until the left one broke. They were all half-full. Empty:0% content Full: 100% content Half empty: 0%/2 = 0% content Half full: 100%/2 = 50% content Only the broken glass, which held no content, was half empty. I find this definition sound and hard to d...

I don't think I've ever seen accuracy used like that in this sort of context. Does someone want to explain what it means? Had not noticed this yet, but when you press next on the current comic the typical teapot model randomly appears on your screen. Its possible that this has always been possible, but I just noticed it. You can manually add the teapot flag to any comic and its moves with the comic. http://xkcd.com/880...

Re: public misconceptions

-That "freezing"/"boiling" mean cold/hot. As in "Don't touch that! It's boiling!", when actually it is already frozen. You mean, like, a solid object that's very hot, but still solid? Yes. Or cold water that is still liquid but is said to be freezing. No, it's molten. ...
