Re: Depleted Uranium

iop: DU is not used in "bullets" DU only gets fired from MBT guns and automatic cannons. Any comparison between the terminal dispersion characteristics of DU and lead rounds is specious. With that said, APFSDS vaporizes in a hard target, and there is no open source data on the behavior of ...

Re: Trusty HDD Recommendation!

You're doing it wrong!

Research individual disk drive model and revisions, most companies turn out lemons.
RAID.
Automated backup and sync.
Shock and thermal protection.
Buy enterprise-grade drives (if you can afford it).

Re: Hacking the CIA?

I suspect anyone with experience in this domain is chuckling at the unending ignorance presented in this thread.
Why is this active anymore?

Re: New OS's or old?

I think anyone who prefers vista or win7 to win2k never did much networking admin or real work with windows computers. Win2k is the last decent OS MS produced IMHO. The interface and organization of the userland has continuously degenerated for a decade. If modern games (all a windows machine is goo...

Re: My school fails at computer security...

At my school my friend plugged his iPod into a computer to charge it...
The NSA had a little problem with that.

Re: Complete HDD erasing

@philips What i quoted for physical destruction was an emergency procedure recommended for use under duress. The dod document you linked is not what i am referencing. I did not advocate the nail as a method of destruction that provides true assurance. Assurance: 3.5" drive: cut the enclosure re...

Re: Hacking the CIA?

Since no one has broken into those systems, the NSA couldn't offer them a job if it wanted to.

Re: USN questions I have yes.

1) it depends on your ASVAB and contract. If you get a BUDS contract, then you are going to BUDS provided you meet the prerequisites like completing A-School. If you get a nuke contract, you are going to your specific A-School provided you pass boot camp. I have seen instances where the navy was unw...

Re: Why are there no animals that get energy from sunlight?

To get back to OP's question: Environmental stresses pushed animals to evolve the way they did. There was a niche for a creature to climb up a tree and eat it's leaves... There is 'space' in a variety of senses for life to exist and flourish where photosynthetic life cannot. Most of the volume of th...

Re: Hacking the CIA?

This guy wasn't in the military, and certainly never did any offensive network penetration on the military's behalf. The military has what some people who attend them like to call 'hacking' schools, but the depth of these courses would be laughable if it weren't such a serious problem. No outsider h...

Re: How to build a secure, efficient web server?

Try to understand what Cleverbeans is trying to get across to you... Why are you doing this? Is it: 1) to securely host web content 2) to gain knowledge of hardening networked computer systems if it is 1, then just get a hosting solution, and don't use wordpress or other such garbage. if it is 2, yo...

Re: Complete HDD erasing

Write garabage/zeros/ones to the drive. Not to be unkind, but if you have done something to provoke someone or some group of people to spend thousands of dollars on MFM services to read your hard disk, they probably already own your ass because your knowledge of securely conducting your business on ...
