Re: I need a book to rattle my worldview

"The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins. is just one book that totally shattered my world view. The book is so intense and powerful, I literaly gasped at some parts of it. At some parts I put the book down, got out of my chair, walked around and stared at the wall for a few minutes to let i...

I'm on EU-Defias Brotherhood. Lots of nice people here, but if you're looking for high end raiding it's probably not the greatest choice

Our memory would be affected by time moving backwards, so all memories of the future would surely be erased?

For putting the JButtons in the right places, you should check out the class GridLayout.

Re: Best and Worst Discworld

My favourite discworld books (measured by lowest resale value, they are almost destroyed from re-reading) in no particular order would be - Nightwatch - Men at Arms - Soul Music - Interesting Times while my least favourite are Colour of Magic / Light Fantastic ... they have the humor, but the plot i...

Re: Nitpicky design failures in awesome games

Not being able to say "Yeah, I did that, Mr. Questgiver Guy" in MMORPGs. In WoW, from level 1 to level 80, about 1 in 20 quests is "Kill 37 gazillion Pink Butterfly Soldiers" with a followup of "Kill Fairy Mary, the Queen of the Pink Butterflies" ... only that I came ac...

Re: OR and XOR

I don't think the "or" in natural language necessarily implies exclusivity, at least in englishi feel it strongly depends on intonation. (I say feel here because i'm relying on my language intuition, not on any rules that I am aware of): To the sentence "Would you like cake or icecrea...

Re: Oracle

Or is this because I deleted the table first? I do believe it is. IIRC, all triggers on a table are DROPped automagically when you DROP the table. Also, the slash is needed to force execution of the CREATE TRIGGER statement, without the slash oracle will just keep buffering everything you type into...

Re: WoWzers!

Northrend is too easy. I don't support blizzard's desicion of "We're not gonna make another sunwell". I want another sunwell. I want something ridiculous, with serious attunements. I want there to be all the normal instances, with plenty of skilled players getting to the WOTLK version of ...

I can't imagine a life with less than 20 different spices, to be used depending on dish and daily mood.
And only 3 of those spices are pepper varieties ;-)

Re: WoWzers!

Borean Tundra sucks, Howling Fjord is the best zone ever. Especially, Howling Fjord is the zone with the best soundtrack ever, followed by Grizzly Hills and Dragonblight sharing second place. It sounds great and contributes so much to the atmosphere. Level 78 on my shammy now, and just respecced to...

Re: Books that make you genuinely laugh

Since Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett are already well-represented here, I'll just /agree on them and add yet another brit: Jasper Fforde! Almost an equal to Douglas Adams in absurdity, yet very different in style. He was the first new author i found for a long time that made me laugh out loud. Wh...
