You can. I've heard of it but have no idea what it is, other than that it involves cards.

Re: What did you learn this year?

Interestingly, I went from being very uncomfortable with C++ to being quite fluent in it within that time, now that I think about it. Certainly, it does seem like it's been a bit longer. Ooo. I learned a bit of C++ too. Some other random crap: Some instructors can turn a good class bad. Some instru...

What did you learn this year?

It's almost the end of the year blah blah blah, so I was wondering. January: ...if there was anything of note, I can't remember. Almost a year ago now, y'know. February: People are foul, cruel, vile, backstabbing creatures. March: A heckuvalotta money goes into college... April: There's a lot of wei...

Re: What was your first cat?

My first were a Siamese named Tara and a calico called Max, or Maxie. My parents had them before I was born, which probably contributed to my growing up a cat lover. Since then we've rarely been without at least one cat around.

Re: What do you name....

If it needs a hostname, it gets one. If it doesn't, it's "the $object". My gigantic royal blue desktop is Argenteus and my silver laptop is Sapphirus. My school hard drives are too likely to get wiped every two months, so I don't pay too much attention to naming them, but I think I'm going...

Re: About geek girls and feminism...

In the four technical (Linux, networking, security) classes I've taken so far, I was the only girl in just one. The other three had M:F ratios of 5:2 all the way to 1:1. I find this interesting.

I'm in California, by the way.

Re: Post your arsenal

I have a nice decorative longsword, a crappy but half-decent looking katana, and an awesome Battle Ready! kris dagger with a 10 inch blade. I also have a fairly sturdy staff and several different pairs of pliers and wire cutters, but those aren't nearly as exciting. I'm kind of disappointed that I d...

iPower sucks. MySQL would randomly break and I'd have to bug support, and there were other reasons I cannot quite remember but that really ticked me off. I've used Downtownhost for another site I do admin things at. It's only been a month (gyahhhh... the move...) but I've not had any problems and th...

[Devils' advocate] Are we being selfish, keeping them alive for our own sake ? If they die, they will be free ... aren't we just trying to save OURSELVES the trouble of dealing with grief? I mean, really.... after they die, we're the ones hurting, not them. Doesn't that seem selfish to you, not to ...

Re: Ubuntu Gutsy

I just use Mandriva. Problem solved.

I had problems with Ubuntu when I tried it... a couple of hardware issues, and my ongoing feud with apt. Might be better now, but even so, I prefer being able to use proprietary drivers without the hassle.

Grand_Canyon++; Looking down at a sea of clouds. I live a bit more than a mile above sea level, whereas the rest of the area is about a thousand feet above sea level, so on some occasions you can pull over to the side of the road, get out, and just look at a sea of clouds stretching as far as the ey...

You also might try Spybot S&D (though I haven't used it in a long time) and HijackThis. HijackThis's logfiles can be difficult to interpret, but there's a good guide here.

Do you need any baking background to work in a bakery? Depends on the bakery. Common sense and an ability to not screw things up helps. Might sound ...

Old enough to drink in many parts of the world/F/California. I started reading the comic because of the spifftastic blend of geekishness and romance, and I just got my Sandwich shirt today and I want to announce it to the world. Can't wait for my online communities poster.
