Re: the great list of languages that are dead

I'm not sure any BASIC (it is an acronym - sigh) "counts" unless you must use line numbers and variables can only be two letters long and variable type is controlled by the actual variable names (integers must start with "i" and strings must end with "$", all else is a ...

Re: the great list of languages that are dead

I'm not so sure. When I learned C, in the early 1980s, there were many people predicting its demise. In the last 25 years I have seen many more large projects written in C, C++, Fortran (sigh), and Cobol (double sigh) than in all the other languages combined. Even if we (the professional programmers...

I am not much for innards. But, I was once working on a large software project with dozens of simultaneous programmers all connected via terminals to a brand new VAX. The project had a system admin for the VAX. Every few days he'd kick us all off the system, sometimes for hours at a time, and more o...

Can't really do much in the modern age, but this is my Amstrad PPC640. It runs an Intel 8088, using 640K memory. No hard drive, but it does have two 3.25 inch floppy drives. I believe that it can run on 12 D size batteries, though I always used the power adapter. I used as a terminal on larger bette...

I wonder if it will be properly hackable so that the end computer can receive the audio / video and in turn send control without human intervention. I imagine that wouldn't be too difficult even if not an open interface, given sufficient packet sniffing or maybe even an established net protocol (htt...
