This is a very well known puzzle - in fact it was answered in a Forum Games thread only yesterday. But if anyone hasn't heard it, I will help answer questions.

My class was introduced to sigma notation in 6th form (second to last year) and we used it a lot in stats, even more so than when we did series. For some reason my teachers were intent on writing everything in stats in sigma notation. Also I'm pretty sure we used pi to mean a product, and in 7th for...

Bad idea that I witnessed: running through a crowded room holding a pair of scissors in front of you and not looking where you are going. This resulted in much blood and a rather mangled hand.

I'm not a very fast typer but I got under 5 the first try and now I'm on 3.13.

Edit: Just got 2.86.

I wonder if this would be easier or harder on a dvorak keyboard?

Let's take this one step further. Let f1(x) = x→x→...→x, with x x's, as in my previous number. Now let f2(x) = f1(f1(...f1(x)...)), where f1 is applied f1(x) times. Then let f3(x) = f2(f2(...f2(x)...)), where f2 is applied f2(x) times. etc. My number is f g_64(g_64), that is, the g...

I've been there before. People do all sorts of stupid things. I heard a guy once hopped in a green wheely bin, started from the top of the street and nearly killed himself when it fell over at the bottom - and then did it again.

I'll go one up on gmalivuk's number. Define a function f: f(1)=1 f(2)=2→2 f(3)=3→3→3 etc. Then the number is f(f(...f(g_64)...)), where the function is applied g_64 times. Beat that! (I'm just waiting for someone to introduce Busy Beaver numbers, which would pwn that number.)
