Re: Diablo III

That last point remains to be seen. Fair enough, but at the very least you can't claim that they don't understand that removing the AH by itself isn't enough. They know full well that they balanced the loot drops around the needs of the AH instead of the needs of the game itself, that this was a ba...

Re: Diablo III

Blizzard is being lazy throwing out the baby with the bathwater and the expansion will be equally if not even more broken than the vanilla game because of it. Too much of D3 was designed with the AH in mind. You seem to have missed the point, repeated multiple times in this thread alone, that Blizz...

Re: Diablo III

The game was very much balanced and built around its existence and how easy trading was. I cannot imagine that anything has actually changed since I played, in that regard at least. Yes, it was. That is exactly what's wrong with the game, and why it's not much fun: the entire loot drop system is ba...

Re: Shogun 2: Total War

Both are quite good. RotS is much more low-tech, and plays out like earlier rounds in the base game. It's not a huge difference, but it's quite cheap, so I thought it was well worth it (also I picked it up in a Steam sale, so there's that.) FotS is much more of a full expansion, and I really enjoyed...

but with items like soul ring and arcane boots in the game, I don't feel mana cost is a justifiable "balance knob" to use at all. Depends on what part of the game you're in. Early to mid game, when you're laning, a well-timed stun can get you a gank. By the time you get boots or soul ring...

Both Valve and Riot have spent considerable effort creating features to help improve the quality of the community, precisely because it has such an awful reputation. This talk is particularly interesting. The numbers suggest that their efforts are at least somewhat effective.

Blizzard has been top dog in the e-sports space for so long they don't even realize how badly the DOTA-likes are eating their lunch. Blizz got too big, too fast with the success of WoW, I think, and their egos grew to match. They really think that they're still the only game in town and don't need t...

How much bigger is DOTA than SC2? I have no idea of the relative popularity of the various E-sports, nor can I find much about it. DOTA is big and getting bigger. And this tournament, TI3, is literally going to be the biggest e-sports event, with the largest prize pool, ever. Blizzards screwed the ...

Re: Fallout: New Vegas : It's Anti-Materiel. Not Material.

I've been wanting to do a JSawyer playthrough, I just haven't had the time. It always bothered me that things like healing items and drugs were pointless since you could just gorge on stimpacks and the game was too easy to need buffs from drugs and the like. Plus "hardcore" mode in the van...

Guido, at least back when he was in charge, said that there will never be multi-line lambdas; it's impractical given Python's whitespace-based code blocks to implement them in a way that's readable and unambiguous. IMO, the least bad way to live with the lack of multi-line lambdas is just to accept ...

eval_input() would've been a much better name. But I reckon eval(input()) is even better. eval() should have a big warning on the tin that says "Keep out of reach of users!". :) This is the case in Python 3, IIRC: input() has been removed, and raw_input() has been renamed input() Frankly,...
