Much of the physics and metaphysics in Children of the Mind and Xenocide is based directly on Mormon theology. Orson Scott Card is a better writer than the person that invented those ideas in the first place, so when he incorporated them into his own story, it made it weaker.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in the thread yet, but Aeris isn't the name in the original Japanese, it was an invention of Ted Woolsey , because the Japanese name, Arisu, was a Nipponizaton of the English name Alice, which is too ordinary a name to be used in something like Final Fantasy....
