Re: Wireless power: hokum, bullshit, or the cure for cancer?

I'm not sure what it does for my confidence in the invention that the idea of wireless power was first devised by a man who was sexually attracted to pigeons and phobic of pearls. Then again, if inventors were discredited for little things like that, we'd be living in caves and throwing rocks at the...

Re: Science rant!

I am so pissed that the chem and physics courses at my school can't make fun, splodey experiments.

Nobody will ever want to be a scientist again, because they'll all assume that science is about counting beans to understand atomic mass. This is all the government's fault! Just you wait!

Re: Avatars! (Attn: Tegan)

My avatar is the sketch my sister drew for the invitation cards for my religious coming-of-age ceremony. At the time I was obsessed with cephalopods. I still am obsessed with cephalopods. It's something awesome in the way they move, and how they have a bazillion appendages. They're like FSM incarnat...

Re: People in high school who wear trenchcoats are douchebags

I love any long coat. It doesn't have to be a trench coat, though those are great. But the more of my body it covers up, the better. I'm not insecure! I just don't like people looking at me! Besides, the greatest thing about big coats is that I can have really long sleeves and stick them out past my...

Re: Making the world a weirder place

I'd much rather be weird than normal. When you're legitimately weird, you can get away with a LOT more. Completely agreed. A lot of kids think at school think I'm autistic. But actually, I'm just not bothering with social niceties because they'll stop expecting me to, and if I say something like, &...

Re: Worst songs to get stuck in your head

I once has NiN's "Closer" stuck in my head for almost a week. Now, the song isn't that bad, but I had the music video stuck in my head. Have you ever tried to take a math test when all the numbers reminded you of that poor monkey on the crucifix? And I played it over in my head so many tim...

Re: Platonic relationships

Freyja, we can't be friends anymore. Apparently it's against the rules. I hope you can find someone else to use that second Tegan and Sara ticket. Damn. And here i thought i'd done a good job these past three (four?) years trying to keep my overwhelming lust for you a total secret. Well, I guess if...

Re: Thrift Store Finds

I found a hardcover copy of Godel, Escher, Bach at a church sale for $1. Same place, I bought a bunch of insanely comfy clothes from some famous designer. Normally they would all be in the 3-to-4-digits territory, but everything was about $5 at the sale. That very weekend, I had played D&D with ...

Re: Homophobophobia

When will they EVER learn that Alan Moore cannot be translated to screen? Look at the evidence: From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen *shudder*, and now the nutter who directed 300 is looking to destroy Watchmen for me? Good lord. On that note, Homophobia is a huge problem. But what I hate mo...

Re: Platonic relationships

If we can't keep intimate cross-gender relationships on the INTERNET, where the physical element is pretty limited, totally mutually platonic (and my opinion is increasingly leaning toward "No, we can't"), there is no way we will ever have real-life platonic relationships between genders. ...

Re: "Pix plz" Discussion

I do have some internet circles that are majority-female, and I don't feel pressure to represent my gender specifically. It could be that generally, female-dominated domains are really not that judgmental or aggressive when it comes to male "intrusion." The only example I'm familiar with ...

Re: POST HERE FIRST - INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

Ahoj, tovarisch. I'm joining the forum in an attempt to bring excitement into my depressingly controlled routine. I thought having these "friend" creatures might help, but they all ran away when I approached them, so I'm looking for some on the Internet! In real life I'm a student, and I'm...
